hello,

I received some cobs and did not use them until now. I borrow them to a friend that did not use it.

But when i receive it back one cob looks like burned.. what's wrong ? is it okay to use it like this or will it be dangerous ?

I put the seeds in water today so i need to find a solution.. without taking risk.

thanks in advance for your help.

Bubbled plastic next to one wire and burn marks next to both wires? That seems dubious. It appears that your friend has not been forthcoming. Play it safe and dump it. You might ask "BigSm0" about the light.

thanks to both of you, yes i hesitate.. don't know if i have to throw it. well it's quite expensive and i just have 4 of them.

is it really a risk or if a problem happened won't it just blew a fuse ?

I've asked BigSmo by mail but no answer that's why i posted here..

Give smo a little time he also works a full time job. It looks fried but he will have a better idea. I wouldn’t plug it in and walk away from it that’s for sure. I wouldn’t plug it in till smo said to.

Agreed. I would not plug it in period without talking to bigsm0. If the OP is lucky its just material like bud that hit the light and its hot enough to crisp the plant material. Believe me I know. I just cleaned it off with iso alcohol and all was good. But that was after sending pics in and getting some advice from the COB master. But the burnt plastic by the leads looks like an electrical burn.

I would call up your so called friend OP and ask him what the fuck he was doing. To even tell you he never used it seems like bullshit. Get the story from the guy so you know what happened. Even get him to buy you a new one bro.

Don't trash it. The various parts can each be individually very easily replaced.

Obviously, has been used or even abused. Maybe it was plugged-in while laying on a solid surface, in which case the heat damage could just be cosmetic, it might still work perfectly OK.

If if were me, I'd plug it in and see what happens (outside or on an non-combustible surface, and be ready to pull the plug). The worst that could happen is a short causing a blown fuse or circuit breaker. It either has shorted out already (it's won't work); or had some other problem, such as melting down from laying flat (with no reflector), and may work.

my friend was not able to start a grow that is sure, he confirms that he really didn't use it, but maybe what Bil said happens : after trying it a few minutes, it had been put on a solide surface.. .

i on it for 30 minutes and it seems to work..

well i'll wait for BigSmO .. thanks for your advices..
