So I made some shatter today. I got it to shatter on 3rd run. Took a few tries to figure out how to get the purge I needed with out a vacuum pump. My problem now is I only pulled about 1 gram from an ounce and can still see a lot of crystals on my bud in the tube. I used 2 cans of butane for the pull. Did I not use enough cans? I did not grind the buds and just shoved in trim and hand broken buds. Should I be grinding my buds. Also my weed was a little on the damp side. Will dryer product produce more? Should the tube have an air tight seal on the butane bottle? I did not have that great of a grow this time but I still would expect 2 or 3 grams from an ounce right? The buds from this grow look amazing and smoke awesome. The bud in the blast tube has a lot of crystals and the product is still sticky and looks like I could still smoke it. Not that I am dumb enough to do that but...

weedman30 I think would one of the guys to answer all your questions in detail.as an enthusiastic gobshite il try and give an opinion rather than an answer if I may.
when I looked at my already run material with scope hardly a sparkle to be seen.ive heard of people repacking the tube for a second run.i havnt done a second run,i squirted till liquid run clear.think peeps say 1 oz 1 can.i wait till material is bone dry and put through a grinder first.7-15% ish depending on good-bad weed and buds-trim is the average.
can you repack and give it another squirt ?

Ya could have repacked but I tossed it after every run. Mine did not come out orange like I expected it to. I blasted once before years ago and it came out orange but this time it did not. Going to get a grinder and let the material get drier for the next run. I have another problem too. The bud is great smoked but the dabs have a short high. I am thinking I might have exposed it to the heat to much when purging it.

I have a hand vacuum pump for my hot rod that I was going to try to use on a mason jar but cant find the attachment I need for the can. I need a vacuum set up anyways. I need it for the home and automotive as well as purging my dabs. Thanks for the reply and help.

Figured out the return part. I ground the product this last run and it only took 1 can. About to do run [HASHTAG]#5[/HASHTAG] tonight. Learned a few things on my last pull when purging. This time I had a lot more and it was harder to purge. The thinner of a film I can get it the better it purges. I took my last run when it was brittle and tried to melt it in to 1 large clump on some parchment paper but I don't like how it looked. I also did it on glass and the results were way nicer. Turning out good enough for now tell I can afford a vacuum kit. Pulled about 3 times the amount on run 4 than I did on run 3

I thought that to,but knew I had to try it at least once.same as all canna extracts,concentrates,cooking every single form I can reproduce.
I kinda agree with you as I don't generally have a lot of buds being a smalltime grower,but sometimes use buds if I get a better than expected harvest.trim is trim.
trim will be wasted if I throw out,so use that and sometimes throw a few buds in to.
I was tempted to buy the biggest tube I could find,but im glad I got a much smaller one.id rather do 3,4 small runs than 1 big run.i feel more in control,if something f'up I only lose 10grams and not 40grams even if its just trim or a finger and not a hand.

I've tried with hair straighteners making rosin was crap even at low heat I just stick to kief in my THC collector grinder out it in baking paper and heat gently with a knife pure head masher
LOL I did not use good buds. This was all the pop corns and trim. I normally throw this stuff out. My wife dose not like edibles so I have no use for the stuff I blasted. She smokes a lot of dabs so I make it or she buys it. Last pull yielded 2.7 grams at the cost of a $7.50 can of butane. She pays about $30+ a gram for shatter so about $3 a gram from stuff I was going to throw out seams pretty good to me.
I was able to do 5 runs. It took me tell 3rd run to figure out how to get it purged proper and the 4th run to figure out my yield issue. Next time 5 runs will yield about 1/2 ounce of shatter for a little more than what my wife normally pays for 1 gram.
