Hello all tincture chefs!

I’ve tried “green dragon” before, but I gave up drinking when it became a problem for me. I’d rather just stay away from alcohol anymore.

This leads me to my question:

Does anyone have a vegetable glycerin tincture recipe that works for them?

Thanks AFN!

Here are the commonly used solvents and my estimates of how effective they are on a % extracted basis:
(1) Recipes that use unstrained, decarbed herb powder = 100
(2) Strained 190 proof ethanol extractions or FECO = 90
(3) Any strained butter or oil = 50
(4) Strained glycerin = 20

I've seen many posts about failed VG infusions, and recommend that people not waste herb doing this.
If VG is to be infused, it should be done using FECO made with 190 proof alcohol.

Just adding decarbed herb powder to the oil of any cookie recipe, or into nut butter or nutella, makes the strongest possible edibles, as do most whole herb recipes.
If making brownies, try to use as little time/temp as possible.

FECO is an acronym that stands for what exactly?

I’m trying to get away from smoking/vaporizing and had a bad experience with an edible. A tincture sounded perfect, except the alcohol part.

I’m trying to make a VG tincture and here’s what I’ve done so far:

Decarboxylated 0.65 oz of ground sweet seeds Sweet Cheese; 240F for 40 minutes
Put that in a quart jar
Poured 1 cup of VG over it
Mixed it up
Put the lid on
Put that jar in a crockpot on “keep warm,” there’s a hand towel in the bottom of the crockpot to keep the jar off the direct heat, and water in there at the level of the VG/cannabis
Leaving it for 24 hours, shaking/mixing every 3 hours or so

I’ll let you know if it works.

I did some research that says VG only hold 1/3 the amount of THC that alcohol does. I’m not expecting much, but I’m interested to see what happens.

As much as I have tried, I could not get PEG or Glycerine to stay stable.

You could try something like Grapeseed oil, it's light, and tastes good.

I tried using MCT oil last year and was pretty happy with the results but that oil is very expensive so infusing directly isn't recommended. You could, however, dissolve concentrate into it.

Sorry for the jargon. FECO is Full Extract Cannabis Oil.

The important thing is to get as much of the medicine out of the herb as possible.
Unfortunately, the medicine likes to stay stuck to the herb, and it takes extreme measures to get it unstuck.
Your digestive system can do that with decarbed herb powder mixed with a bit of oil
Glycerin can't very well, but if you don't strain it, it will have maximum potency.
If you do strain it, it'll probably make use of far less than half the medicine.
If you do strain, save the potent sludge.

There's a simple recipe called Bhang. Basically, you fry bud in a bit of butter, top up with milk, and let simmer a while. You can add tea or chai spices, coco, whatever, but it's also good as is. Its surprisingly strong and long lasting, and a cinch to make. I like it every once in a while, when I know I don't have to be very alert.

if im not mistaken pg/vg/peg is ok to smoke but there are health concerns on the ingesting of it.

:pighug:

I don't want to eat pg or peg, but I am OK with vegetable glycerine by the dropper full.
It occurs naturally in our diet, and some athletes take 10-20 grams for that final push or to get over a hump.

AFAIK it is high calorie, our bodies can't store it, and have to burn it. Just remember that your regular blood sugar is on hold until you burn the glycerine off, so only use big doses when you are truly exhausted, to avoid a spike.

Luckily the 2 ml or so of tincture probably isn't going to make much of a difference.

I tried some of the mixture that I made:

This being our first try, I'll use the lowest setting.

1/2 dropper full - no effects

I might one day go as high as five, but I really don't know what that would do to you. So, let's just start with what we have. What did this do to you? Tell me. And remember, this is for posterity, so be honest -- how do you feel?

So far, nothing to report or recommend trying. Although, it does taste like sweet green tea, very good flavor.
