I know I get a darker sediment at the bottom of infused coconut oil. But I think the THC is more concentrated at the bottom too. Talking about a 3/4 cup batch put in a jam mason jar. I don't have any hard facts on this, but my experiences are that for a given batch of oil I can eat more when its first made, and when I get near the bottom I'm eating half of what I used to eat at the top, and still finding even more effect than the double dose when the batch is first made.

Does anyone know if THC will settle and concentrate at the bottom of infused oils?

thc is infused in the oil,if there is any sediment that will likely be tiny particals of plant matter.will add a lil bit more flavour and maybe add the optical illusion of being stronger.
or rather thats my theory on the subject.
this was filtered through a 50 or 75 micron screen

6 months later same shade top to bottom.

Just heat that oil into liquid and then consume it.

I'd love to know if its technically true or not. I know plant matter will setting depending on how much was strained out. But I'm sweating that the oil I have had the chem THC stronger at the bottom of the jar.

Work arounds like heating are possible for me to do. But I'd still like to know if the chemicals like THC do settle as the oil hardens.

Coconut oil will not extract all the cannabinoids out of your material.
Depending on how well you strain the oil, there will be little bits of plant matter remaining in the oil that will settle to the bottom of your container.
Some of the plant matter will be empty trichomb sacks and it is quite possible that thc that has not infused into the oil (or some full trichomb sacks) are in your sediment making it stronger.

You have just discovered that the strained out sludge resulting from strained oils/butter is very potent, typically containing half the thc.
That sediment at the bottom is fine sludge particles that the straining process didn't remove.
It isn't your imagination. That bottom stuff will be significantly stronger than the rest, so keep things mixed.

Sludge is valuable, so don't toss it.
Some of us don't strain oil because we want all the medicine in the oil, not just half.

Unlike oil extraction, 190 proof ethanol extraction is very efficient.
I recommend making only unstrained oils (or whole ground decarbed herb), or if less herb is wanted in the finished product, strained ethanol tinctures/feco.

great information right up my alley. I'm going to make another batch today since I"m scraping bottom on the current one. I'll find a way to keep it mixed up or a way to eliminate the inconsistency because of the sediment. Always wanted to do some caps up.

I have extracted using ISO before but got low yields. And it's expensive when you are still not producing your own and buying from medical producers. Once I get my first and second grow under my belt, I hope to find I have a big surplus of ISO extract and can use that instead of the infused coco oil. I'll probably keep using both methods and keep experimenting.

But good to know I wasn't imagining what happened. I like to think I can tell what is going on with the dosages.

Beware of isopropyl alcohol. It's impossible for most of us to get all of it out, and any impurities might get super concentrated in the final product.
There are 3 things you can do to use all the herb's thc.
(1) Bake with finely ground, decarbed herb. This seems too simple to be true, but it produces maximum potency edibles if not too much more heat is added.
(2) Add finely ground, decarbed herb to anything oily (I use home made nutella), and use. If capsules, you'd probably have to swallow several.
(3) Make 190 proof ethanol tincture, or feco to be added to any oil for ease of use. My experience is that this extraction method gets almost 100% of the medicine, at least for long soaks.

do you have a link to a good version of the tincture recipe?

I have baked many brownies but stopped because wanted to not eat sweet foods to dose. But have to admit, the brownies were the most consistent method I have used.

So easy no link needed. (1) Decarb @ 240 F for 40 min. (2) Grind to a fine powder. (3) Soak for a few hours, days, or weeks at room temp with frequent shaking. (4) Strain, including liquid from at least 2 more alcohol washes.

At this point you'll have tincture that needs to be reduced, and this can be done on a well ventilated, covered burner electric stove. Sparks and flames might cause fire.

1 oz herb in 1 cup 190 proof works well. Gravity, graduated cylinders, and coffee filters help with the straining process. There will be some water in the finished product from the original alcohol.

Dabbers prefer cold short washes, and won't like this method.

I like both oil and alcohol tinctures, and usually end up with 1 oz original herb in a 1 oz tincture bottle.
