I had a friend I've lost touch with unfortunately that had done this as an experiment. It had been going tremendous until his dog decide it was a good place. To mark his territory. He had pulled it down after pooch out of the "fire" if you will, and showed me. It had been doing tremendous. I have a plug in the backyard and a place for it. Was wondering if it would interest anyone to do a journal for something like this and or just open to thought or opinions on the idea. :toke::headbang::joy:

Lots of folks use dwc setups outdoor and greenhouse grows. A cool trick is to bury your reservoir to keep water temperatures down in the warmer months.

OK I wasn't aware that it was common. I was going to bury mine as that's what my friend had done. Thank you for enlightening me. The burying part I was aware of just because of my friend but I didn't know it was done somewhat commonly.

I was watching a YouTube video this morning with an outdoor dwc that wasn't even aerated only a very small waterfall, makes me wonder if im way overthinking it. Lol

A small waterfall I'm intrigued by that.

Im probably making it sound more interesting than it is, it's just a 1/4" line fed into the top of the bucket falling through the airgap 8" or so but its enough to break the surface tension causing some minimal aeration. Lol

OK still that's cool when I have done dwc I put a pump and drip ring in for the first bit usually but I doubt it's necessary as I still have the airstones going but this is still interesting to me makes me wonder as well if it's all a bit less complicated then we make things at times.

My first grow ever, before I even knew about autos, was 6 photoperiods in a General Hydroponics Ecogrower in a 3 x 3 ft tent.
It uses a small air pump to power air-lift top feed thru 6 narrow tubes to the 6 grow sites, but has no air stone.
The waterfall action of the small drips coming from each tube was enough aeration.
As an experiment I got a second Ecogrower, and did a side by side experiment by adding an airstone to one.
It made no difference, making me believe that the minimum amount of aeration needed is much less than commonly recommended.

I need to find the pic of my buddies outdoor DWC. He used a college fridge with a hole cut in the top for a 5 gallon bucket and used a brewers temp switch etc to keep the inside temp where he wanted it.
Quite ingenious and crazy. But worked well
