New Grower First grow starting this week - 1xNirvana Blue Mystic 1xNirvana Short Rider

I know I would but bear in mind that it helps keep them short and don't pull them out of the ground in the process ...

I'm thinking to try one of the blue mystics...See the difference so I'll have that experience for the future. So much to learn.

When I look at the SRs I just put outside I can quickly see the benefit of lifting the center leaves ... these plants went outside as little bushes and already the node spacing is beginning to stretch after only two days ...

I used to lift the leaves for 6-8 hrs ... now if I am close to the grow I use 2-3 hrs on and 4-8 hrs off ... Helps maintain upward growth as well as bush it out ...
:tiphat:

Ponytail!!!!! I did one with a zip tie (loose) couldn't find a pipe cleaner. Left it on over night, took it off this morning. The other one really looked like it could benefit, so I ponytailed it with a pipe cleaner I found...no pic of it, just did that about an hour ago. Like the technique. Will probably do them both right before bed and take them off in the mornings. About 8 hours? Does that sound ok?

Anyway, my cab temp is holding steady about 85 deg. The blue mystics seem to love their environment are growing really fast and looking great. The short rider is growing but at a slower rate. I don't think those seeds were as good honestly. Here is a ponytail pic.

Between that and that nice clean Mylar you're gonna have bushes ... I like to use craft pipe cleaners because they are gentle on the leaves and I generally go 3-4 on and 4-6 off ... the plant will let you know real quick how it feels about it ...

Thank you all so much for chiming in. Money is tight (who does have unlimited funds?) so I will add other stuff later. I'll get the soil ph tester in a couple of weeks and another 125W 2700K light with the cord or several smaller watt bulbs to place around by the time we hit flower.

I do have 2 8 inch fans that I can use for air movement...maybe will add one of those and blow it AT the pc fan to help with air movement?

I think I might ditch the smart pots and go with regular - which I already have, I was up in the air about those.

I checked my city water quality report and there is chlorine but NO CHLORAMINE!!!! Ph is set to 7 at the factory :) I did forget the ph tester for the water so will get that at the garden center when i buy the soil. I'll have to add ph up and down to my pre start list as well...this stuff will nickle and dime you to death..its worse than the kids!

I found this DIY CO2 thing in a book...what do you think?

1 gallon plastic water bottle with screw on lid
3 Cups of Sugar
A Funnel
1/ 4 inch diameter plastic tubing*
A drill with a 1/ 4 inch drill bit or a Philips head screw driver
Silicone sealant (comes in tubes for sealing bathroom stuff)

Procedure:
1. Fill your plastic gallon jug about half way with very warm (not hot) water.
2. Add 3 cups of sugar (using the funnel).
3. Put the lid tightly on the jug and shake it up to mix the sugar and warm water together.
4. Add cold water to the jug, leaving air space at the top (a couple of inches so the tube sticking out of the bottom of the cap is not in the water).
5. Add 2 tablespoons of baker’s yeast and a pinch of baking soda to the sugar water mixture.
6. Put the lid on and shake it again to mix it up.
7. Make a hole in the center of the water bottle cap that is 1/ 4 inch (or slightly smaller) using the drill or the screw driver.
8. Push the plastic tubing through the hole in the cap so that about 1 or 2 inches protrudes out of the underside of the cap, but not long enough for it to be in the water mix. It needs to be in the air inside the jug. Several feet of tubing should be sticking out of the top of the cap.
9. Seal the cap around the hole that the tubing is in, using the silicone tube.
10. Place the lid on the jug, screwing it down tightly. Make sure the tube is not immersed in water.
11. Run the tube that comes out of the top of your bottle into your grow area, pointing the opening toward the plants. Trim the tubing so it is only as long as you need to get from the plastic jug to your plants.
12. Be patient while the sugar water and yeast take time to react and put out CO2 gas. This CO2 generator should last about 2 weeks. You’ll need to clean the bottle and make a new batch of the sugar-water-yeast mixture if you want to go beyond two weeks.

Thats all for now...thanks again for the awesome welcome and advice.

Cheers!

I would suggest to make sure you have a good ph test system before you start to grow. That is one of the most important things to have.

As for that method of CO2, it may work on such a small grow as yours. I have heard mixed things about it. If you do it, I would suggest running the tube across the plants and punch the holes in it.

I honestly don't think you need the Co2 for a while, since this is your first grow you are doing. Keep it simple stupid imo till you start to understand the basics more. But this is your grow so the choice is up to you of course.

I would also suggest to soak your soil pre hand, and check it before adding seed or plant to it. This has been my biggest mistake is not testing carefully enough and ending up with pretty low PH levels.

Howdy all. Just finished feeding everyone. 1/2 gal water with .25 ml buddha grow and extreme serene. Also .25 ml blackstrap molasses. Did my first ph run off test and was about 6.3. The 2 blues seem to be digging the environmen. I've been ponytailing these the last few days a few hours a day. Temp is pretty steady 84 degrees, humidity 40%. I keep the cab doors ajar and seems to be getting plenty of lights since everything is mylar in there. As summer progresses and if temps start to creep, I'll be trying Akay's little chiller device. I'm so broke right now even a new bigger fan just isn't in the budget.

Shorty is not as hoped yet. Looks to me like a little light bleaching maybe...in her seedling days she was pretty close to the big cfl's and it was pretty hot in there, hoping to see some improvement soon. Couple of pics (popscicle stick just leaning on plants for size ref.):
day 20 for the blues, day 13 for shorty. Any ideas re. shorty please chime in!

Hope you are ready for the ride man. Those Blues will start popping soon.
Looking good.

I'm having better results with the blower outside blowing into the intake, The room temp is 70F so its cooler than having the fan sucking in the heat of the cab. Opening it often to change bottles and having to cool everything again.

How often are you having to change those bottles ?

Your plants look great ... The effects of Mylar are really noticeable ... Shorties just short ... She looks OK otherwise ...

Things are looking good. All 3 plants seem healthy. I've got temps at 81-82 during lights on. I added a new 14.00 exhaust fan that matches the intake fan. Both are powerful little 4 inch desk fans. Really pleased with them. I have placed my 2 battery powered fans on the floor aimed up toward the lights. Seems to be doing the trick with the temps so far. Had to water sooner than I had been, they are growing pretty well. I upped their feed to 1/2tsp per gal. of Roots organic Buddha grow and Extreme Serene. 1 tsp per gal. blackstrap molasses. They did not complain. Little bushes in there! I am wondering when/if they will get some height. Any ideas how tall to expect these strains? On the seed promo these were both labled as "Short". Welcome to the Jungle.
