First time trying any of this, bought some seeds and I decided to try and grow 2 of them this summer. Placed in the jiffy pellet on Saturday, first seedling popped up today. I now have the lid off to get some air circulation and once the other seedling comes up, I'll put them under some light. My plan is to plant them outdoors but I want to get them off to a good start first. I read about putting them in 2 liter bottles to get a long tap root, is that the best way to minimize stunting their development? Any advice from seasoned growers is appreciated.
Thanks!

Looks like its a little to wet.I would put them in a one or two litre pot now so the tap root has a place to grow than after a couple weeks transplant outside.

It was too wet for sure. I took the lid off and hopefully it will dry some. I'll repot them tonight and put them under a light tonight with a little fan blowing. I was going to try Promix bx and Fox Farm Ocean Forest mixed 50/50 as my mix but after reading the sticky, I'm a little concerned.

That soil combo sounds mega-hot....(in conjunction with FFOF issues right now) If your Fox Farms soil is coming from the west coast, maybe just some Happy Frog instead (with some perlite, lime and mycos) :)
It's a crap shoot right now (it seems) with east coast-sourced FF soils. My bag of FFHF from California was luscious...like super-nice...and 6.6 out of the bag.

Not to doubt you, but why is it "mega-hot"? Promix is used as a seed starting mix without any nutrients. By mixing it 50/50 with a normal potting soil, it would seem to be a good idea. Any insight would be appreciated.

I repotted them into bigger containers and they dried out nicely. I am going to put them into 2 liter containers tomorrow.

Ah, I must admit I don't know much about Promix...I thought that was the more "fortified" version...so along with FFOF, I was thinking it sounded like a double blast of hot soil, but it seems you're cutting the FFOF with the Promix...my bad.

Promix bx has no nutes in it just myco. So mixing with FFOF is just fine, not hot at all. I've used both separately and have used them mixed. Either way is just fine. Just check the ph of the FFOF. they've been having issues with it lately. If the PH of the ocean forest is low just use the promix bx.
Good luck
