Mephisto Genetics Gold Glue, Forgotten Strawberries, Orange Diesel

Hey my journals are not good man. My grows up to now have been pretty amateur hour. But I'm learning and getting better. Which you are looking to do too. Some people say I over think things but its the best way to go if you really want to improve your game. So learn, learn and learn. And expect some errors along the way. There are some very helpful people here so I would start looking out for their posts and hit them up with questions.

Did you get the 4-pot kit with the one pots with trays and valves? Comes in a big box. If you got yours in Canada, that is the best package the importer brings in. They dont bring in all the products either, like the smart pot version, which sucks. But at least you can get them here.

I recommend getting some Home and Garden drip clean to put in the reservoir mix you'll end up making after day 20. Drip Clean is supposed to prevent clogs.

These are some autopot tips off the top of my head. Some are mine, some come from others who already been down this path. And there is more info on the autopots board. Lots of info. Very valuable.

Get a good compressor for the air dome and you can use it to flush the lines too if they get any build up.
Use RO water instead of tap water.
Mix your nutes up a day ahead and let it sit and check the PH for drifts up and adjust if required. And get a digital PH pen with a good simple calibration.
Check your trays to make sure they have water every day. If you get a clog somewhere one way to catch that is to do the daily rounds and make sure all the trays are working and contain fluid.
If you have multiple pots on one res, get more of the shut off valves and put one in front of each pot so you can turn each one off or on. Its a nice to have, not necessary really.
Clean your trays and lines with something like water with CLR after every grow. And rinse well. And blow the lines out with air.
Get extras of the silicon bits for the trays. I lost a couple. And they are cheap.
Use coco. maybe 100% of 90% with 10% clay balls hydroton.
Don't mix heavy amendments in with your grow medium. Avoid the temptation to add things like earth worm castings. If you're using coco (Canna coco bricks are available in Canada and are nice -- you don't have to rinse them before use.
Also avoid using sugar or carb based nutes in bloom phase because they will clog the autopot system.

Thank you for the tips.. I am listening .. I purchased the 4 - 3.9 gallon pot system .. I got at a really good deal ,,, most places are wanting 250.00 for the system and I purchased mine for 150 on a black Friday special .. I have been looking at the autopots for a couple of months...... I just purchased 20 of those silicone things because I am good at losing things.. LOL .and I just ordered some drip clean as well.. I will look into RO system down the road .. I live where right next to lake superior we have some of the best tap water there is so I am going to have to stick with that for now .. I downloaded the water specs from our city … I am definitely going to use coco already purchased canna brick .. through my research I thought they were good quality bricks …I purchased the PH and EC metres we calibration fluids for both …. . I am also an aquarist so I am going to use one of my air pumps for the lines .. I have a good one with 4 valves on it .. I also just ordered 4 shut off valves …OMG this is getting me sooooooooo anxious to start .. But I know I have to wait … I don't think starting now and then having to go away 2x's before xmas will be good for the plants.. I will let you know when I start growing and I will take pics etc to start a journal .. Again thank you for all your help and getting me ready for when I start growing .. … :)

Holy smoly newautoflower man. You got your game on. Smoking deal on the autopot kit. That is a great price. And you got all the other accessories too. And your water should be OK.

From all the things I learned you want to get a fast solid start. And to me the key to a great start is perfect moisture in a good environment/medium. Even if its your first grow in a while, you might need to work out some kinks to get the start right. If you can avoid some errors there from getting some advice, that would be a good thing. Even though you have to learn from your mistakes, if you can prevent mistakes and you know why and how to prevent them, then that is a good as making the mistakes IMO. So I'll pass some stuff on that I think is important enough and worth posting about in a public forum. I learned all I know pretty from slowandeasy on AFN. He's very good an very helpful and generous. You might want to shoot him a PM with some general questions. A year from now you'll probably have a full inbox with content from Slow.

The paper towel germination method is the best method for a newbie. Once you're seasoned maybe you can just germ in the final container. or you might try plugs one day. But to start with its good to use the moist papers. That way you can see the tap root develop instead of it being below ground. Check out Mephistos site and the grow guide and the section on germination. Do that as best you can. I use a heat mat instead of the router box for heat. The short of it is, just moisten the towels. Don't soak them or you'll drown the seeds or it will be really slow to germ. And spray mist them like a little bit once a day to make sure they don't dry out. And keep your heat at 25C right at the seed. Use a digital infrared thermometer to check the temp. after 2 days, 3 tops, you'll have tap roots and its time to move on. It took me months to get this simple thing working right. Its funny, but not funny!

Next phase is all from Slow and it works great and is good for newbies i think. I'll try to be brief too.
Get the 16 oz solo cups and put holes in the bottom for feeding and drainage. I like to use a seedling tray as a cup holder so I don't accidentally spill a solo cup. I cut holes in the plastic dome.
20181109_091725.jpg

Load the cups up with 100% coco. Pre charge your coco a couple of days ahead with 1/4 strength grow nutes and water. Don't soak them. This is where everyone fails almost because they over water the seedlings. I did it many times. I would precharge that solo cup 1 day in advance with maybe 3 ounces of feed water. Weigh that cup now so you know how much it weight when just perfectly moist. This is your baseline of how moist to be over the next 10 days.

Put a seed hole in the top of the solo cup with coco about 1/4 inch and drop the seed in with the tap root down. Cover it lightly with coco. Put a clear cup over it as a moisture dome.

Now you are going day to day. What I do is weigh the cups to see how much water is in them multiple times per day. People may not agree with this, but buy a cheap 10 buck moisture meter with the skinny probe and use that as a gauge for how moist the cups are. Between weighing them and metering them you get a good sense. You want the meter to be in the middle for moist. And let it shift to the left as it dries and then add water when it starts to get in the red dry zone. I use the 10 buck meter every day throughout the grow now. Its not 100 percent accurate, but its roughly right and helps you understand. I found the solo cups of coco when moist are about 250 grams. And when they get to the dry point, they are around 220 grams. I'm OCD and anal and I find the meter and weighing saves my ass from over watering.

On roughly the second day to water you want to dunk the bottom of the cup in feed water. Don't top water the cups. Bottom watering promotes the tap root to go down. It also helps prevent over watering. I usually dunk for about 1.5 to 2 seconds and put the cups about 2-3 inches down in the solution, then pull it up.

Between the environment, the moisture domes, your watering, you'll be able to get some solid seedlings that will be the base of the rest of your grow. And what you did about preventing over watering will become a good practice for you all the time. You will be able to read the coco moisture visually, digitally, physically.

man, that is about it. Sorry for rambling on. But there is a lot to know. Couple more pics of the first 10 days.

Day 17 from sprout. A day early on the weekly update due to thanksgiving festivities coming up.

Just trucking along and doing pretty well by my standards. I am playing around with RH and temp and VPD. Generally speaking RH is constant at 60% and temp is at 73F/23C. Hand watering twice a day now. Will switch on the autopot system on the weekend.
Megacrop at 4.5g/g. Sweet Candy and CalMagPro at 1g/g. Tribus is 1ml/g.
PH the feed water to 6.2 and let it stabilize for a day. Not seeing any drift in PH actually.

Forgotten Strawberries

Very short and stout. 3 inches tall maybe.

Orange Diesel

Chunky girls. Will be interesting to play around training these two. 4-5 inches tall.

Gold Glue

Last but not least. This is tucked in a corner of the tent near my oil heater and humidifier which might be affecting it just due to proximity. But nothing seriously wrong with her at all. It was one of the most vigorous plants in the tent thru the last 17 days.

Looking good mate.......I'm going to be running 2 Forgotten Strawberries next.....im soaking them tonight so mind if I tag along?:pass:

Of course my friend. I was just out at the tent doing some training on them. Both of them are very similar. Really short. Super tight nodes. Short thick branches that don't bend but have big wide fans on them. And layers of leaves that have no space between them. I was going to leave them over risking breaking branches by tying them down. But I was afraid that would really cut off light to the point I'd end up with one short main cola and thats about it. Finally realized that pony tail is the answer. If you lift up the thick collection of leaves you'll see lots of bud nodes below them. So I pony tailed the big ass fans up and that exposed the lower nodes that were completely invisible before. The big fans are like a camouflage net. I'll do that for 8 hours a day for 3 days and then we'll see what they look like. I'll post an after picture. Good luck with yours man.

OMG you have a wealth of knowledge …thank you so much …. If you take this off will I be able to find it again? Yes I got an excellent deal on the autopot system.... I agree I have lots to learn again …. .. just to let you know add an "wo" infront of man .. LOL I am a female just like all my plants will be .. LOL
