Indoor Growing the wrong way with Shumway

:baby::baby::baby:

Whooo!!!

Took a peek in the tent and was amazed to see a tiny little dark devil staring back at me lol HBD is kind of going slow but looks like she might end up being the rarer purple pheno,Already seeing color coming out in her so fingers crossed its that and not a early deficiency

She looks drowned how much and how often are you watering?

What fluids are you using during germ and on the sprouts ?

I do room temp cheap bottled spring water for germ and for sprouts and have pretty darn near 99.9% success over the decades.

I do 24 hours in water (sink after 12) then bury 1" down into the medium, then pour spring water over the buried bean, then cut the bottom 1/3 off the cheap water bottle and push that lightly into the medium over the buried bean to act as a humidity dome.

But there are a million ways to do it... so whatever works for you

HBD has had only one other watering so far since the initial soak,Probably was half drowned though lol Had her sitting under a little florescent for a bit but was kind of cool and she wasn't doing much so was staying wet for longer then she should have

Right now i'm just using tap water thats been sitting out for a couple weeks and never had a problem using it before

Thinking temps are my enemy right now so we'll see if it changes when i get my heat mat and dome.

Tap water can change from day to day, that is why I use bottled spring water to start them out. 83 degrees F (28.3 C) for temp works good here.

Good Luck

Wanna give you a seed starting tip that has worked great for me so far.
First, put a bit of fine soil in your palm- just a pinch. Remove any large chunks. Use a finger from your other hand and put a firm pressure on the seed and rub it into the soil for about 3-5 min. This process is called scarification. Then soak the seed in warm water. Some people say as little as 20 min, but i always give at the very least a couple hours but usually more. After some hours i go and poke the seed and if it’s viable it will sink. If it doesn’t sink yet, i wait a few more hours. Sometimes it takes this long but if it doesn’t sink after several hours of soaking, it’s not a viable seed.
Then i take a jiffy pod that’s soaked in warm water and put the seed into it. I remove the wrapper from the bottom of the pod so the taproot can come out because later i remove the wrapping completely and i don’t want to break off any of the taproot.
Take that pod and put it in a bowl deep enough for a seedling to sprout, cover it with plastic wrap and poke a few holes in it.
Set on a warm surface. I have a seed starting mat but use what you’ve got- maybe a warm appliance? A safe heating pad? Vent the plastic wrap at least once a day to release trapped excess humidity so it doesn’t mold.
Usually it takes a week or less for a sprout with first true leaves to show. I always wait at least a week. I let the seedlings true leaves form slightly but sometime before the 2nd week duly hits i take the jiffy pod, gently peel off the wrapping, and transplant into final pot. This is my method that has had nearly 100% success.

Go figure,All the other seeds died off on me yet again!

No idea what the hell is going on but have lost about 40 seeds altogether now,Been starting em all as i usually do in paper towel then get tossed into solo cups with peat & coir once they have a nice tail on them but then they just stall out and wither away :finger:

Tent is between 25 to 28*c so temps are fine and no ferts or anything in the soil mix

At least i have the one HBD for now and just put another 12 lowryder #2's and 2 dark devils in to germ so guess its another waiting game lol

The problem sounds two-fold- the taproot and it’s very fine hairs is getting damaged during this process and your seedlings are falling victim to something called “damping off”. Bottom heat will help. Heated seed starter mats aren’t very expensive at all.

Figured it all out

1st seeds that were going mushy on me in the paper towel method was due to temps hitting over 50*c + easy lol Was setting them directly on top of my old hard drive in my computer so was cooking the shit out of them

Others in the soil were getting munched up by a ton of gnat larvae :nono: The only organic source for them to eat so they were drawn to em like a 500 pound fat man at an all you can eat buffet lol

Ugh, yuck i hate that! Throw out the contaminated peat. Give my method a try sometime- the paper towel method is a little hard on delicate sprouts, and it’s also less moving around and transplanting. I use ocean forest too and place the pod directly into soil in final pot so there’s not really any transplanting going on at all.

Finally up and running again!

So nice to have some babies going after all the bullshit problems

Surprised the little seedling even sprouted :nono: I knocked the solo cup over the other day and noticed the tap root snapped in half so i just packed it back under the soil gently and sure enough she had her head above in 2 days lol Not 100% sure what she is yet but its either a lowryder 2 or himalayan blue diesel.

Bigger girl was my last dark devil seed and 8 days today,Other pot just received my last 2 red poisons so hopefully be seeing some action there in the next couple days,Decided to drop the ocean forest or other pre-bagged shit and just go with pro-mix amended with some gaia green power bloom and ewc for their final pots
