I am growing exclusively for edible use as I can no longest smoke due to some asthma type symptoms. I have heard that the techniques might be a little different than trying for the best tasting, aromatic buds for smoking. Anyone else doing this and can you point me in the right direction? I am about two weeks away from harvest and would like to be ready. Thanks!

Hi @Wild Corgi I do not do combustion. I quit smoking tobacco 50 years ago! The high terpene profile of well cured cannabis will carry through to your edibles when made properly. It is a real joy to eat a piece of rosin infused gummies or chocolates. Olive oil for salads. Butter for brownies or rice Krispy treats on and on.

I ALWAYS decarb after extraction. I hate the toasty flavors of decarbing the bud first.

Getting a rosin press should be a goal for making the best edibles. Next comes the Magical Butter machine. Do a long slow extration into Coconut Oil, Olive Oil or Butter. Strain well then decarb the oil in a jar in an oil bath at 252° for 27 minutes.

As far as drying after harvest, any guidance? Use all leaves and bud or just bud? In the dark big time here!

This is an art. Best conditions are 60°F to 70°F with the RH 55% to 65% dark with gentle air movement. Hang the whole plant if it will be warmer or drier. Hang large branches with the sun leaves removed if conditions are spot on. If the RH is over 65% do a wet trim before you hang them. Hang dry them until the smallest twigs almost snap. Then put the branches in brown paper bags for a day or two. This will "Sweat" the remaining moisture in the large stems out and distribute the moisture more evenly. Then when the buds measure 10% moisture or 62% in a jar with a hygrometer put them in Grove Bags verify the 62% in the bags and then heat seal them. Wait 2 weeks (if you can) or longer. Enjoy!

Thank you for the info. I wasn’t sure if I had to cure them or not if they where going to be used for edibles exclusively.

What extraction method do you have available to you would be a good question. ?

Nothing at this time. Looking at all options first. I don’t think I will use the rosin press as suggested. Not really wanting to spend that much.

You do not even have to dry it if all you want to do is get high from eating it. You can do a QWET and make gummies. I am a cannabis connoisseur and have been working for years to make my edibles taste better. I automatically think that is what others want - silly me. :baked:

Just saw the forum on edibles...DUH. I have been reading it for a hour while drinking my morning coffee. Not sure how I missed it. ‍♂️ What a great amount of info. All my questions have been answered!

@Mañ'O'Green and @WildBill I have been in a restaurant related industry for years and have many chef friends and foodies. Quality definitely is at top of the list. Thanks for your help.

Good chefs make the best testers. They can detect and describe nuances that others miss. I was born into the restaurant business and my wife is a classic trained chef. She went 18 months to the CCA San Francisco. She does not like pot :yoinks: and says it mostly smells like a wet dog to her. She lets me grow in the house though :yay:.
