Hello everyone I'm trying to start my first grow but need some direction. I've ordered a mars2 400w led and that's about it. I also have the GO box for nutes. I'm wanting to get a 2ftx2ft tent but am wondering if I can go bigger without losing a lot of core coverage. Not sure what seeds to start with but I'd like a purp strain or something with some color. Not sure about potting soil either so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Your Mars II 400W is a great light, I think it draws actual around 200W...
And the GO Box will serve you well.

A 2' x 2' x 5' tent would be perfect...the light could probably sufficiently
light a little bigger area except for the fact that it's square in shape so
a square floor plan on your tent is a good call, IMHO.

For strains...you say you want purps/color?

Head straight for Sweet Seeds Red Family. Then pick the one that sounds
most intriguing to you

Soil...6 months ago, I would have said Fox Farms Happy Frog, but so many
issues regarding the Fox Farms quality control on their soils. I have made the
switch to Roots Organic Formula 707 myself and will start my first 4 or 5 plants
in it in the next couple days.

Poke around read some stuff and start getting prepared, It's gonna be fun!

Items to research:
pH measuring devices (solution testers and soil probes)
The use of Garden Lime (dolomite lime)
The need for more CaMg with LEDs
Myco soil amendments
Different pot/container types (airpots, smartpots, etc.)
Air exchange for the tent (intake/exhaust)
Odor Control
Feeding to runoff
Oxygenating your water/dechlorinating tap water

Thanks for the quick response Trapper. Looks like I have a lot of reading to do lol. Quick question if you don't mind. How many plants at one time? And what size pots would you use?

For first effort, best to go with one....less money down the drain if something goes tits up.
after that, with a two by two....maybe 3X 1 gal. or a tight 2x2gal.

Or look into a scrog.

It isn't needed for scent control that early but it does help control temps. You'll want to see
what temp you're running in the tent with the light on.

I can't argue with Trapper. The Sweet Seeds reds are knockout. Dark Devil is tempting, but not a huge cropper. Tends to be a bit tall and lanky. Happy growing my friend, eP.
