I have just had a ripper of a day . :woohoo1: Sunday is my day at home doing what I want to do , no work issues . So I had a old tree stump in the yard that I have been wanting to burn out . Of I go and fire it up and bugger me , hang on I want to have a go at making Bio char too . Out comes the chain saw and I cut a heap of wood that the cyclone dropped. Now all this wood is hard wood , and some of the hardest in the world .

so stump is burning all is good , now to add the wood.

From start to finish was 8 hours with day temp 35 c so bloody hot . now you will see by the next photo how hot the temps got in the fire .

After lots of beer , as I had to keep my temp down , purely for safety reasons , can't get heat stroke , Safety first when you do this . So next , I have a wee joint because all is going good . So here I am sitting adding wood and it is getting bloody hot . I could fell the heat from 20 ft away . Hard wood will do that . One thing I will say I have spent a lot of time studying making Bio .char . So will this work , I hope so . now lets see .

:woohoo1::woohoo1::woohoo1: spot on . S next . Lets try the water test .
DSC_0040.JPG

What you see here is the char that I added water to just cover the char , and within 10 min the water level was below the char , :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:it worked . I believe I should get 80 % out of the pile , also we ate expecting some heavy rain in the next 2 days , so I will leave it outside then dry it and sort it out . There is a lot more at play here than what I have posted , so if you need more info just ask .:smoking::vibe::vibe::vibe::vibe:

Well came home after work today and did the first grading and cleaned all the soot off , now it is in the sun to dry , later in the week I will sieve ti again for the finer grade , -- 5 mm -- It has been well worth my time and I am more than happy the way it has turned out .

Well the sun and wind did it's job , Nice and dry , so all sieved . What you will be seeing is as it came out of the fire bit , I have not done anything to it sizing wise .
all I did was run it through 15 mm -10 mm - 5 mm - 3 mm - . wire mesh .

so this is a start , The photo above is not what I want . But that;s ok it will not go to waste .

Looks like some excellent amendment you've made brother. Are you breaking it up somehow to get to the smaller mesh size?

No @Jraven This straight out of the fire pit , I use a hammer when I want to break it up , I have some ideas I want to try when I am inoculating it , like using the native environment mostly , But our wet season is a bit slow starting this year , also worm castings ect . It was this plant that started it all for me . Going on 10 weeks old , 10% Biochar - charged - I think I can just start to see a nitrogen deficiency starting . also this plant is daily getting very high heat -- 35c plus .

Well room id done , so time to charge the Bio char . I have used the same mix as the outdoor plant just a bit weaker . The only thing I have done different is I am bubbling it for 24 hours , I didn't do it last time . So this is what I done , 8 litre of bio , which I added 8 litre of water with a 5.5.5 organic liquid plant food that also has seaweed - microbes - fish - vermicast - minerals and trace elements - my own worm castings - and a dash of liquid [ p ] - Guano pellets which I soaked for a week to get the water soluble bits out , I have been doing it for a while and doe's not seem to be doing any harm  Also sea minerals at 1/4 ml a litre and lastly Silica and [ K ] --- There ya have it . Time will tell . Nearly forgot . I have 18 lt pots and will be adding the bio to the top 6 in , they are 10 in high pots , at 10 % of soil volume .
