Hi there, how many plants could you successfully grow under 4 cobs?

Right now I have 5 smaller plants but if I were to off center my lights I could probably easily fit 8 smaller plants.

I was just going to post a very similar question/thread. Also have 4 autocobs myself. But I also have 2x600 watt HPS lamps that I run down the middle of the tent and the autocobs are hanging to the outside of the HPS lights. And an 8x8 tent. And I'm growing in autopots with airdomes and coco and good auto genetics that would be too much to list off. I like variety.

I thought I was going to limit my grow to 4 plants at a time and the 4 autocobs was perfect. But now that I'm getting in to this I would like to bump up to 6 plants. I have 4 autopots now and was doing the math on adding 2 more plus air domes and another reservoir. And then the math on 2 more autocobs so I would have 1 per plant. I can't swing it all right now. It would cost a good $1K.

Could I expect good results with 6 plants under 4 autocobs along with 2x600 watt HPS lamps? And what I love about the autocobs is they are easy to move and hover over any plant I want depending on the day/situation so that could buy me some ability to handle a bigger garden than normal.

I also have an 8 bulb T5HO fixture I like to hang over a couple of seedlings to start things off. So that helps a bit too.

Im a week into 4 mephisto avt in 5 gallon autopots. I'm using the premixed Coco/perlite. They are in an 8 x 4 tent, with two each end. I was wondering whether I could put 2 in the middle but unsure if the cobs could spread their light enough?

6 plants under 1200w of hps will be fine... honestly, 1200w of hps and 200 with of cobs should be overkill. 1600w for a 4x4 tent is what would be used for photos (50w per Sq ft), you can get by with less with autos, a good question for a more experienced auto grower.

So the question really should be how many Sq ft will 4 cobs cover? # of plants is relative.

Ps, I have a 4 cob setup going together now, in a square, on 16 inch centers this will cover about 1/3 of my 4x4 tent if that helps

Good to know this. Overkill lighting is good for me because I'm learning so I can use all the light I can get. I have noticed experienced guys getting nice grows out of minimal lighting but I'm not there at all yet. Knowing my lights are good or more than good then I can focus on other aspects of growing. There is a lot to know for sure.

And I figure the more plants I have growing right now and learn from the better. The cycles take a while so I was hoping to stagger 2 plants at a time a few weeks apart and have capacity for 6 instead of 4 gives me more opportunity to learn.

Hear you on the real question, but I can't wrap my head around that right now. For me it's number of plants.

You could do two plants per cob (no reflectors), but one plant per cob would be better. My current run I am testing one plant with two cobs. Doing two of those. That seems to be a little too much for those plants and they are already hanging at 30" to canopy. I'll probably try it one more time, but with a super auto.

Well, maybe 6 small, 4 medium, or 2 large. Unless you use solo cups... then all bets are off.
