Hey guys

Planting tonight using Canna Coco. Don't know whether to rinse or not rinse the feedback is mixed.

General question about watering my seedlings. Does anyone have a guide on quantity? If there is a watering guide doing the rounds it would be a massive help.

Peace and love.

Lenny

I am not a coco guy but we will get you some help.

I do know people do rinse. And since the coco is just coco, I guess it wouldn't hurt to rinse?

Just sayin'

Thanks Eek. I'm going to use a humidity dome (soda bottle) for the first week. So any guidance on the amount of water I should be using for the first week would be great guys!

Peace

In soil, as a young sprout, I use a cup of water every other day, but does coco dry out faster?

Not sure, but help is on the way

Peace

Why don't you post your need in the

Woah - Wait there len, let me see if i can sort you out with some good advice on canna coco.
I'll grab you some links, but first of all

.. don't rinse the coco!! ^_^ (this feedback is from the people who make it! ^_^ )

Back in a couple of mins

edit 1: https://www.autoflower.org/f126/[canna]-coco-growing-tips-29173.html MUST READ! Never plain water and some watering tips.

Good all round general info taken from the Canna Members area how to's and coco advice.

edit 2: As for watering, less is more at the seedling stage, so a very rough guideline is about half a glass (a normal, not pint glass) of water should last about 4-5 days in normal growing conditions (75-80f 40-50%RH)

I presume you will be dropping the seed into it's final pot.

When the plats are established with decent roots, you'll be able to water by the weight of the pot. Just pick it up when fully watered and it'll be super heavy. Wait until it is light. (Canna recommend watering at 50% weight...although personally i wait longer)

Do you have an EC meter?
Watering at less than 0.8ec will ruin the buffers in canna coco.

The buffers in Canna coco are pretty awesome. your pretty much fine watering between 5.5ph and 6.2

although i'd work it so your more acidic for veg and creeping up to the 6.0 -6.2 for flowering.

If you don't have an EC meter. You'll have to take a guess.

My water has a background of about 0.5ec so if i add 1ml of coco A&B to about 2 litres of feed, i'd expect it to be in the range of 0.8-1.0 (which will be fine for your seedlings)

If you have some Rhizotonic, it's awesome too, the roots will love it. If you make a PH mistake and go too acidic, you can use a few drops to bring the PH back up without effecting the EC :) (sweet!)

Hope this helps
All the best

Blue ^_^

Canna coco is one of the best coco mediums out there.. It is pre rinsed, has perlite in it and is PH balanced to use right out of the bag! No need for rinsing. With coco just water it until you see runoff and give it a few days to dry a little and do it again. You don't want to let coco dry completely.. You should try to read one of the guides stickier above for how to water but its really hard to overwater coco, you can water once a day when they are older but as young plants I would suggest every 3-4 days saturate the coc.. No rinse needed with that brand of coco. Ive been using coco for 6 years and coco shouldn't be treated anything like soil as suggested earlier.. Its a hydroponic medium even though it looks like soil

Take a look at my grow journal its in coco

Thanks Mindzeye I'll check it out. So to confirm doesn't need rinsing. But should water till run off once I've planted my seeds?

Also should I add canna a and b to that water? I was planning on using rhizotonic as well?

Peace.

Correct, your medium doesn't need rinsing. You can use Rhizotonic, and base nutrients, but with seedlings I only use 1/8 strength nutrients. Coco has zero nutrient value so you need to add a little for seedlings.. Just be very modest with it until you have a couple sets of leaves then you can increase to 1/4 then 1/2 then 3/4 then full strength. A rule of thumb I use is water until you see 10% runoff, 10% being the size of your container. On a 4 liter or 1 gallon pot you want to see .4 liters or 1/10 of a gallon runoff. This is to moisten medium, introduce fresh air to the root zone, maintain PH, and make sure the plant has the correct ratio of nutrients in the medium. I also feed every time I water....
