Mephisto Genetics MEPHISTO TO TOP OR NOT

Yeah, it's easy to find. Should be "required reading" for EVERYONE on here that owns a couple KAAAAHBS and a bottle of noooots.

***ATTENTION***

If you are NOT bending your plants you are HUGELY MISSING OUT. You can and WILL get 5x the harvest with good LST techniques including the "Ring Around the Rosey" method as shown above from Cornell. Lollypop to lose the larf, and LST to get huge harvests. It's that easy. Even if your plants are a month old....BEND ONE IN HALF AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS!!!! Even if you break one...which you WILL DO...don't sweat it....it's not like a broken arm on your kids....grab a popsicle sticks and some vinyl 3M [HASHTAG]#33[/HASHTAG] electrical tape (the good shit) and fix it. Better than new in a day or two. And you might even get a little Supercrop or FIM action out of it and get some weird looking donkey dick that's the best example you've ever produced. No joke. Dope does funny and interesting things when it gets broken. Get a little kinky and tie them ladies up and slap em around a little.

I've broken some for sure. One of my worst is almost fully breaking a side branch off the main stem right where it meets the stem. But crazy super glue works great at mending that type of break. I find its better than tape. Easier to apply than tape especially on a bushy plant that is hard to get in to. It's faster to set too.

That's a weak spot on most plants. Doing tree work I see the same shit too. 95% of evergreen tree incidents I have been to are because the tree was topped for whatever reason. The new top looks more like a Y and the triple spot where it all comes together is weak and sketchy at best. The grain gets all twisted in on itself...you get these weird burl tumors and it's just not the same anymore. Fortunately, it's not gonna crush your home if you break some dope, unlike big scary wood over the living room. That's a good idea with the super glue. I've always been uber careful with branches coming off the main shoots as that's a weak spot that is hard to fix...but when you apply the bending between nodes and snap the main shoot...usually and hopefully on the inside only...a loop of tape and a stick works great. I like electrical tape and masking tape, as it basically only sticks real well to itself when around organic materials....I've used super glue to fix my own wounds, so it's not at all a stretch to say it works equally well for plants. Good tip. I like tips...as this is how you git-r-done when things are not going smooth.

PS. Don't glue yourself to the dope.

There’s a step by step how to train branches without braking. Put a support from the bottom pretty close to the base but a little higher then the actual node then pull the top down the support from the bottom is where the bend will happen and keep from splitting branches off. Someone here posted some pretty good pics of it.

Depending on how early and the size of the plant, I do three "anchors" off the very bottom. Like a Mercedes symbol. I usually use strong twine through a little short piece of clear tubing....that way it's real gentle, and won't cut in. Pull equally hard from all three directions and you got a ROCK SOLID anchor for some serious tugging.

Very good advice everyone. The best advice is to choose Strains that suit your needs first. Then evaluate your grow space for it's potential numyof plants. You cannot expect to or want to train some strains at All. Topping some plants will severely stunt the growth. Training some plants will result in a hugs reduction in plant numbers vs natural growth. It can add weeks to your grow time to top a plant. I have to disagree with some of the posters claiming you should bend and LST every plant. That being said, some benefit tremendously. Don't waste time bending a small Auto Indica. Don't waste horizontal growth space on small plants. I believe @Seabass hit the nail on the head I his post. Personally with most Autos I don't suggest Topping. I prefer less stress and faster turn around.

I only grow Mephistos. I have done about 8 strains and they all have benefited from LST. I don't top autos either..... specially the short length Phisto strains. LST is almost an art....but once u get a feel for it, it's all about huge colas on a super even canopy with no larf. Period. Take it for what it's worth, but proper LST on 70 day or quicker plants seems like a no brainier. That's why we all do our own thing though. There is no right way to do it....but I have seen much better results every time I start yankin. Lots of KAAAHBS in 3gal homemade airport w/ Canna Coco and perlite medium. It's all about trying as much as u can....see what works FOR YOU and your specific techniques.

I don’t usually top autos either for the quick turn around but have seen every plant benefit with some degree of training. My cat who I think loves weed more then I do decided that my Fugue State would benefit from a topping by biting off the top shoot at 3 weeks in and eating it.She will go around chewing the leaves on certain strains that she likes and she has very good taste I must say.Usually Hazes but any way the Fugue now has 5 branches at 6 weeks that are primed to be very nice fat kholas and a nice even canopy.I am also growing a superauto from Flash seeds that I should have topped numerous times but didn’t and am regretting it a little bit.She is getting much bigger then my normal Mephisto’s.I have lst’d the shit out of her though and I think i will be ok.She is at 8 weeks and starting preflower mode and will have 10 or more foot long fat and sticky buds. The strain is Missile 33 and is very good old school smoke.I will shut up now.

Great cat. Would be nice if she could also do some LST early on, and some pruning around stretch time. If you can any kind of decent footage or her in action, you could make some income off a youtube channel.

And I am telling you she only goes for the really DANK stuff. As soon as I light up the GOOD she will come and sit on my lap and have me shotgun her for the whole bowl. She is a bigger stoner then I am.I need to train her to manicure some bud and I will be all set!
