Indoor need some advice please..

Will a 600w hps cool tube be overkill for a 4 ft x 2 ft tent? And how does the lowering the dimable ballast effect the temp given off? Please enlighten me I have the tent ordered and was going to buy a 400w but the 600w aren't that much more but I'm not sure if that will just roast my plants in that small tent cause I've seen people use 600w for a 6 ft x6 ft tent and obviously mines much smaller please help p.s it says I can run the 600w at 50%, 75%, 100%

Even with a 400 temps will be an issue. The secret is in your air handling system my friend. That's not to say that the 600 is out of question because it certainly is doable. But you will need exhaust all of your heat no matter what your choice. I personally don't use them, but plenty of others here have, and could probably point you in the right direction regarding setup.

the lower you set the ballast the cooler the temperature will be but it can mess with the efficiency of the lamp and the lifespan of the bulb.

Btw, you want to also check efficiency. Some 400 watt HPS lights
are not very efficient.

Save the money and get some Phat CFLs whoop be great for the grow space id say 300w CFL with some smaller ones for side lighting:smokebuds:
