I see some people use reptile heat mats?

+1 on the heat mats. If it gets below 0f where I'm at, I have to put one in my auto closet, or it won't stay 60 at night. With a snake mat- 10x15 inches, maybe.. It'll stay 67, lights out.

Like you're saying trying to heat the intake up seems like a more viable option than stuffing heater inside.
The thing is my tent is not even in a garage, it's in a heated room but the plants obviously like the temps to be a bit higher (I'm comfy wrapped up in a blanket with 17 degrees C but the plants are not) and even with the lights on with the new GN units I won't be able to guarantee proper temperature without supplemental heating:dunno:

Waximus are you sure about that? Because if you are then hallelujah that sounds like a great solution!
The reason I was skeptic about reptile heat mats is it says they emit some form of long-wave radiation and that means they heat up solid objects but not air above them - do you still find they keep the ambient temps up ok? That would be great :dance2:

If you are growing in a heated room then you should be OK, My lights out temperature is now dropping to high teens, but fortunately on the last leg

hps are 35% efficient (when new), modern led lights should be 40-50% efficient. why do you think you need heating all of the sudden? stop thinking as gn is some kind of magic company, the rules of physics still apply to them...

He raises a very valid point bro if your using less energy in a room there will be less heat.

Just one point,the light is NOT passively cooled there is a virtuality silent cooling system that doesn't use rotating fans.

some of us prefer a dark period or run photos in 12/12, during the lights out phase a heater on a thermostat is beneficial during the colder months, besides i think its good for the lights to get a cool down period too but its up to the individual grower.
