New Grower Ocean Forrest too strong for seedling?

If that perlite is the Miracle Grow brand make sure to wash it well before use. It contains slow release nutrients that can have an adverse effect on your grow as Andy has stated.

I chose Happy Frog after thinking I was going to be using FFOF...and I made the mistake of buying MiracleGro Perlite.....rinsed it thoroughly before using.

Holding 6.3-6.5 soil ph with plain RO water. I added dolomite lime to my mix.

Good Luck, Egypt!

Hey EgyptianGrow welcome, I'm just stoppin in to check out the ffof discussion. I'm pretty much a newbie but I'm growing with ffof. I've been lucky I guess since I've started all my plants in that soil, only 8 plants so far but nothing noticable, although I've been reading lately that it tends to be hot. I would also like to know more in regards to this, what happens if it's too hot, nute burn? I also may start mine differently, IDK, I soak the soil in the morning or night, wait half a day and plant it, then just spray with a little mister for the first week or so. I'm rambling, well good luck however you choose to go, I'm gonna check ya out once in awhile to see how things are goin..

Hello!

I am using FFOF for my grow, and will probably be using it for all my grows, until something changes (if there are mites, burns, etc.). I think each strains are different, but I am growing a Northern Lights Auto, which have been germinated in paper towel, then immediately planted into soil when the root appeared.

Since the soil has a lot of nutrients already inside, I did not have to feed her for about 3 weeks, just only pH water. And there were no burns, or any kind of signs that the soil was too much for her.

I know this might be a bit off topic, but I've been growing lettuce, pumpkins, and green onions in the FFOF, and they're thriving in that soil.

I appreciate your input bud, and i am a veggie gardener as well so any and all info on fox farms is fine by me!

If the FFOF is too hot how would the problem manifest itself?

Well, that would probably exhibit in a few different ways, varying in severity.

Failure of the seed to germinate (if soil germinating).
Failure of the germed seed to survive.
Sever stunting of the plant from nute overload
Plant forced into being male

That sort of thing...

simple little trick i've used and seems to work ok, if your soil mix is nute rich and maybe a little hot i place a tube in center of pot ( cardboard , pvc, whatever) and poor hot soil around it. then put peat and perlite or seedling soil inside tube to make a core of "safe soil" for seedling to be planted in and grow down its taproot. as it get bigger it will root out into hotter soil. just don't leave tube in there :) its just to make the core
