On my last trip to the grow shop i came across these, thinking it was a cool idea i picked up one to give it a try. They are the idea of a Spanish company and it is basicly mushroom spores mixed in with recycled coffee grounds from bars and restaurants, you peel open the cardboard box to find a sealed bag containing the goodies, take a knife and cut a cross into the front of the bag and moisten with a spray bottle 2-3 times a day and then within 6-10 days the mushrooms are ready for harvest. They got the first spray this morning so all is off and moving, will add a few pics over the next few days to show the progress they make, the strain is Pleurotus Ostreatus (Oyster Mushrooms) and should be a bit of fun with a tasty treat at the end

Yeah i really liked the idea, my 4 year old daughter has also got really into it now and keeps checking to see if they are growing so also fun for the kids

The first signs of fuzzy growth were visible last night and when i went to check on it this morning had tripled in size, so looks like we are on track for some tasty fresh mushrooms for next weekends meals.

man those look scrummy! and they take all the work and need for patients out of it for you. if you have the inclination you can learn how to make a liquid culture and clone a big fattie and grow some from scratch it would be an awesome learning experience for your daughter and it's not really that hard to do. IMHO anybody that can grow weed can grow shrooms

Thanks FarmerGreen, i must admit this has sparked a interest and have been spending the last few days reading up on liquid culture, is some real interesting stuff that as long as you keep everything clean and sterile as you said don't seem that complicated at all, and is something i will be looking into more in 2016 for now i will continue lurking in the Shroomery soaking up some knowledge on what looks to be a fun new hobby.

Got my first harvest yesterday of 150g fresh mushrooms that will be going into a risotto for lunch today, not the biggest or best looking but have already worked out that another spot with more natural light is needed to get more out of these babies, so will have to see what comes of round two after the holidays but for now the kit is being kept in the fridge till i get back.
