Lighting ?'s about converting mars type led to cobs

Afn bring newer to DIY is tough. Introducing a whole new world to an established and successful forum takes time. I can see there is allot of activity flooding this area lately which I hope will strengthen us even more.

Thanks pop and arty. You guys are both just as experienced it's just that I beat you here lol. Pop your current success, the stories I read daily and my own consecutive 1/2lb autos under minimal wattage is enough to know there is a something very special about these cobs. Dans thread which I'm happy to read could be the start of him growing plants like yours pop22. Meanwhile saving 50% on his light bill nevermind the savings on cooling. It's time to motivate people so they can experience what we have.
:bighug:@BigSm0 thank you for the kind words, really appreciate it brother!

Unfortunately I often find myself tied up around the forum with other work but everything we do as a team, is making the forum a more dynamic place, with lots planned for 2017.

So you (BigSm0) and pop22 are the true heroes of the LED section and guys you make me so proud to have you here!

I love the way it is engaging the members, to try building their own light but we also support those who want to buy too, horses for courses, I believe is the expression is!

One thing is for sure LED lights are kicking arse and we will keep seeing new improvements and innovation in this field.

One of the things I am really proud of is here at AFN in the DIY LED section is we promote Safety first and keep our members safe and also building the best DIY LED possible!:d5::smoking:

May I just sneak in and suggest some BXRC-40E4000-D-7 for a Mars upgrade?
I know it's highly uncommon for be to suggest Bridgelux cobs :crying:
But if you want to go with Citizen the CLU038-1206C4-403M2K1 give you a better bang for the buck in an upgrade

After a lot of research and advise I am planning on the following for my 2x4x5 tent.

1 Meanwell HLG-185H-48A driver

4 Citizen CLU048-1818 90CRI 3500k cobs

4 105 mm Passive pin fin heatsinks

4 Ideal cob holders

Reflectors with adaptors, wire, thermal pads, WAGO connectors.

If you guys see that I'm missing anything or just have other suggestions please let me know!

I expect you could grow some mighty fine canna with a light rig like that. Reflectors are optional and you can save a bit with omitting them and the mounts. The Wago's take the guess work out of wiring so that is a good thing. Make sure to check the specs on the holders as I think that some of them are only rated to carry enough current for 3 chips. Not sure on that but I am sure that one of the other more experienced members will jump in here and get us set straight. The nice thing about running 4 off that driver is that you will be running a shade oover 50 watts each which should give you a very efficient and quite powerful light.

And dont forget to keep us up to date on your progress. I know I just love to see what others are doing.

Sounds ok but I would definitely go for the 120mm heatsinks. They are rated for 60w while your first choice was rated for 30w. Id also skip the pads be grab some thermal paste from amazon. Not going to save any money but I feel it's much better than pads.
This build should put you right around 57% efficient too which is amazing.

Yes puddentane some are rated for lower voltage. The ideal are rated for 250v which is within this lights specs while the bjb are not. I don't like the ideal and am in love with the bjb holders but not the best fit here. With an already directional cob and the reflector adapter that should be enough and any additional reflectors are completely your own call. I wouldn't suggest them or reject them either.

Thanks again! That's good to hear about the reflectors.

It's going to be a week or so before I can get my order in. I will keep you all updated though. Should be fun!

I also wanted to ask something else.

What would you think of this same setup but with 4 1212's instead?

If these are also a good choice I could save some money.

Thanks!
