Right on! That's a 1999 Ovation Celebrity A/E Sunburst... There's a '92 Fender Strat (American Made) the SG, 1963 Gibson J45, 2002 Takamine Jasmine A/E, and a few local guitar shops custom made Acoustic/Electrics... they all have their own tones, sounds, voices... However, the SG and the Takamine are my two favorites... That '63 Gibson was my Father's who passed away in Jan. It's very special to me. He bought it the year he graduated High School...

Shumway, learn the C, G, and D chords first, then you will be able to play a song, then there will be no stopping you. My first self taught song was. Every breath you take by the Police. Then I HAD to learn more chords after that. Then the sky is the limit.

Thanks all you folks, this is not my thread anymore, this is everyone on AFN's now.

You all are Awesome!!!!!!

I concur! G, C, D, A... then you'll want to learn every first position chord... then off to barre chords and scales! BTW most every single guitar solo (unless you're Steve Vai LMAO) comes from scales... Once you learn the first position chords you're off and runnin' my friend! :head:

See even dumb ole drummers Know other instruments too.LOL!I can play smoke on the water and a basic slap beat on a bass.LMAO!

Just picked myself up a cheap acoustic to try and learn on and all i can say is I FK'N SUCK AT GUITAR!!!!!!!!

I'm trying my ass off but my fingers are telling me to go screw myself lol
I remember the first time I made a "G" chord. I literally though "how the F*** can anyone do this?" Wasn't that long ago either. I seriously thought about quitting right there.
Learn whatever chords are comfortable for you at first, and find songs you can play with them. G,C, and D are good chords if you want to be able to strum like a million songs.
Once you learn a couple chords and can play them clean and clear along with a song you like you'll be hooked.
Then there will be that one song that you LOVE, but you'll have to learn ONE more chord to play it and you will.
A year or so down the road you'll know more chords than you know the names of.
That's how it goes Man.
It's how it went for me.

Truer words were never spoken about learning guitar... that and some killer Smoke always centers ya right up!! Always did for me... :smokebuds:

This is awesome, Nice conversation. I would like to sit around with you all and jam. Of course we would have to pass the bong around you know, to get our creative juices flowing.

Thank you all. And shumway, one of the things that got me into guitar, was I was writing songs 15 years before I ever played. I was too embarrassed to actually give the song to someone, So eventually I thought that if I was ever gonna hear these, to see if the song is any good. I was gonna have to play it.

bye for now

Yes, making own songs or just letting your mind flow through the strings is the best way of practicing for me. I once knew how to play Dirty Women by Black Sabbath ...and that's about it :D
