My own shit, thanks to places like this!
I am a fan of many ways of growing. Two of those ways are via AutoPots and SIP Buckets. Both are bottom water/feed techniques.

During my last grow, I decided to add the AirDome to my AutoPot setup. These domes are connected to an aquarium pump.

The idea is that the constant gentle pumping of air into the root zone makes for happier roots.

As I was setting up this next garden in my SIP Buckets, using GrowBucket Inserts, I got an idea. Why not borrow the AirDome philosophy and put it into the SIP Buckets?

I already had the equipment. So, I am giving it a try.

Look at the photo montage below to see how I put this idea into action.

By the way, I doubt I am the first person to think of this. Since I hadn't seen it anywhere else, I thought I would share it on the internet.

I was gonna build one of these myself but the growbucket inserts are quite expensive. Couldn’t be bothered building one this grow

I’ve built them before where I use two buckets. The top one has a small Net pot in it centered at the bottom for wicking. It drops down into the water chamber that’s made by the second bucket. For the downtube you just use a piece of PVC pipe, which is sized of your choosing. He just has to be big enough to get water down into.

I agree grill bucket inserts are pricey.

I bought a bunch of these grow bucket inserts last year for growing my outdoor civilian garden. So, I’m going to put them to use inside the grow tent.

I’ve seen an even simpler design where people just put empty plastic bottles in the bottom chamber to give space for air and water.

Yeah I dug deep into these DIY sip buckets and seen a few. I was gonna build one with the net pot too. Did you ever get to try it out?

Absolutely!

I grew some bad ass okra and cucumbers last year in the "net pot" version.

I’ve been using GB’s successfully. Adding aeration seems like the next logical step. I’m surprised folks find them to be expensive. Three inserts for $50 shipped on Amazon, plus the cost of the five gallon pails. Seems reasonable to me, but I do appreciate the DYI approach. Here’s a pic of the roots from my last grow. I’m interested to see if adding aeration would make for even better roots/plant health.
