So as I've been doing some studying, I've seen TONS of different soil mixes and names. I want to hear from you guys and what the best soil is for me. I'm going to be using 3 gallon containers and only nutes I have so far is Super thrive. What do you recommend I use??

Note: My first attempt will be 3 autos in a closet grow. Afghan Kush Ryder, Blue Mystic, and a Hobbit ;)

Promix all the way. If you can find it easily in your area, I wouldn't recommend anything else. Easy and new grower friendly. All around great mix I say. :D

And Superthrive is good stuff.

if i may, i would recommend Sunshine Advanced promix 4 or their Super Hydro...ssap4 is virtually nute free...s/h has some worm castings but bot are considered soil less and from my experience is a great medium. heres a link... http://www.sunshineadvanced.com/products

Cfl lights
Just a plain old 3gallon container, nothing fancy.
I plan on germing then with paper towels, then to solo cups then the 3 gallon where they will live happily ever after, I hope! Lol

Yeah, with medium it's best to check your local nurseries and garden centers. Let us know what they have and what your options are, that'd make us more suited to help you. Ideally you want something that has these things in it;

Sphagnum Peat Moss
Dolomite Lime or some other pH buffer
Perlite
Added / Beneficial mycorrhizae

What you want to avoid;

Soils that have a high NPK rating or anything pre-loaded with ferts.
Miracle Gro

Let us know what you find, try to get the name, as many details as you can about the mixture / ingredients and the NPK rating if applicable.

@SBH: Hey brother, that Sunshine Hydro looks like the bees knees, have you used it? That looks like it may be pre-mixed hempy material for me. Has included pH buffers, great drainage and dries up fast? Whaaat.... wonder if I can get it anywhere locally. :bow:

been using it for almost 2 yrs, i use GO w/ it and wash it after each use...i've got 2 totes full i've grown in at least 3-4 times...not saying it'll last for ever but fella could make it last...i really like the S/H, it dries out fast...i was watering/feeding every 2 days w/ it...perfect for sm/pots imo:toke:

I flip flop between Roots Organic Potting Soil and Fox Farms Ocean Forest. Roots has been awesome up until the last bag I bought that was almost all perlite and coco. I was disappointed to say the least but that's what happens with any bagged soil. Sometimes you just get a crappy bag :cuss:

@SBH: Closest retailer with Sunshine Hydro is about 4 hours each way.. I wonder if there's any online retailers with a reasonable ship rate for it, do you order online or locally?
