How do you start seeds when using an Amazon and normally use cuttings suspended by the neoprene collars in a net pot with no growing medium at all? I've seen the little spongy cubes used to germinate the seed in, but there's a risk of the sprinklers getting blocked with bits and the cubes get a bit waterlogged - an issue when the seedlings are young but not so much after they have developed some good root growth.

What is a amazon? Do you just want to know how to germ seeds?

Hello namvet25 - an Amazon is an aeroponic grow system that has a water reservoir on the bottom with a pump that supplies 4 rotary sprinklers in a tray above. The plants sit in net pots which sit in holes in a lid above the reservoir - it's a cheap aeroponic system. Normally cuttings are used that are just supported by a foam rubber collar in the net pot. Not sure about posting links but here's the manufacturers web site - http://www.nutriculture.co.uk/amazon.html

So it's basically an E-Z Clone namvet...

You don't want to start seeds in that, amigo.

Thanks headpiECE - I should have mentioned that rooted clones normally go in after being in an aero propogator for a couple of weeks. There's very little transplant shock as they stay in the same net pots all the way trough - it's just the system that they sit in and the lighting that changes. I've seen seeds started in root riot plugs but they are a bit too small and rattle about in the net pots - they could be chopped up I suppose but then a membrane would be needed to keep any little bits from blocking the sprinklers.

hey sh germ them in Rock Wool cube a little bigger then the net pot when they pop put them in the net pots. nothing there to plug the misters so your good to go. you can put the pump on a timer and control the moisture in the R/W cube when the roots are a 1'' or so below the cube run system as normal.

TOKE OUT

Tokemymeds - that sounds like a plan - we'll have to give that a go, thanks very much.
