Dragon Meds The Dragon Tests - Pal

About 20lpm of air should saturate a 5g bucket of H2O at roughly 73f .
Too much turbulence will damage your fine roots.
The object of the bubbles is to move the water so that it is constantly being exposed to the surface, where it absorbs oxygen.
I used to have some very heavily stocked tropical fish breeding systems that only used moving water to keep them highly oxygenated.

I have read that the microfine bubbles are small enough to actually diffuse oxygen into the water before breaking surface.
But I am still learning all the variables to hydro growing to be able to know for sure that the $50 microfine airstone grows my plants better than the $4 pond airstone.

Maybe look into boss hoggs micro technology, 25 micron bubbles so they are all smaller and less intense, better spread but more cleaning involves to keep em running

Ps im pretty sure seymour buds end up with 60 lpm when he does his big autos, but starts off witg 3 plants ans brings it down to 1. Maybe he will know if u will get problems with it

Firstly, thanks to both of you for stopping by and sharing your views on this subject, I always appreciate it.

auto_mate, I have researched the boss hogs before but the only problem was finding somewhere that ships to the UK for a reasonable price, I found a few copies and fakes but the genuine ones are out there if you're willing to spend the money - this will be my last grow before upgrading some equipment so if I can find a good deal I will grab some then. I still have micro pore diffusers, or as close as you can get to the boss hogs in the UK, made by angel aqua if you wana check them out.

gtron2, thanks for that info. I'm certain the micro pore diffusers are priced higher for a reason! I've seen some that are amazing they create tiny tiny tiny bubbles which barely disturb the water, almost makes it look like gas so very rich in oxygen without too much turbulence to mess with roots. I'm still using the stuff I bought for my very first DWC grow so they are due for an upgrade some time soon as I just mentioned to auto_mate. I do believe however I found the best airstones I could for my price range and delivery options.

Can't wait to see if this set up works, could just all go wrong  Don't worry though I have plenty of seeds! :Sharing One:

Second MoonStone seed has cracked open this morning, she'll go into a root riot cube within the hour  That's 100% germ rate on her so far Stone :Sharing One:

Yeah those damn yanks like to charge out the arse for postage on ebay, i had money at the time so figured id go all out and got 6. They took 6 weeks to get to me aswell. Im gettin all angry about it again lol

Im gonna be watchin ur grow, r u gonna push it and wait for vertical growth to stop before changing to bloom nutes or r u goin for the regular 70 day grow time?

I will try and get this one done as fast as I can, prolonging the switch to bloom in my experience hasn't paid off so i'll switch 7-10 days after showing sex this time around. How do the boss hogs perform for you? 6 weeks is a long wait! :peace:

Yeah but thats the norm for me if i order from the US, i hate it but some things u cant get elsewhere.

Boss hoggs work great but u gotta keep em clean or they will clog up.

MoonStone has popped out of the root riot cube and dropped her shell casing today, she has her tap root showing from the bottom of the cube almost an inch long which is my cue to put her into the DWC system. (Used this method last time worked fine).
Once she's secure in her new home I'll take a couple pics of the full set up but she hasn't opened her cotyledons yet so not a lot to photograph

Having a few issues uploading pics but I have an update ready for when it's sorted :peace:

Okay here we are :) first I have a few pics of me breaking up the main cola from my first MoonStone.

Now onto my current Dragon/setup. So far it's been like this, day 1 - put into soak, day 2 - paper towels, day 3 - root riot, day 4 (today) into the DWC system. Nice and speedy so far, I'll wait until tomorrow morning to make up the initial res as I usually start to see roots emerge 3-6 days after being placed into the net pot. If anybody is interested in how I get my seeds started in DWC please refer back to the start of this thread where there is a short illustrated guide.

For this grow I have created my own 40L res from an old water butt to see if it has a direct increase on yield as I'm holding off from upgrading my lights until the release of the new GNs. There are going to be a few differences compared to growing in a bucket and there is definitely some trial and error on the way! Gonna be figuring out the best way to do things as it happens but I'm sure we'll be okay  Here are a few pics of the set up..

Here you can see my expert use of brown tape to avoid any possible light leaks ;)

As mentioned earlier she hasn't had a chance to open up yet but she's on her way, purple on the outside green on the inside

For the mean time whilst she is small, I've used some polystyrene to cover the top of the bucket to help bounce the light back up, plus it helps with any light leaks until I can completely fill the net pot, however I was very thorough to make it light tight. Anyone that owns a GN unit will recognise the polystyrene packaging :P

As you can see my DIY skills are very basic and limited, I don't even have a proper tool kit, the equipment used to make this system was: bread knife, trimming scissors and brown tape  If I can manage to pull this off it may be a good example of how to do things on the cheap/by finding things around the house?

That's all for now folks, but you know I'll keep you updated, wish me luck! :Sharing One:
