Happy to shed light on making RSO - if any of the mods would like to discuss more with me.

https://skunkpharmresearch.com/qwet-extraction/ is a great writeup on a simple at home procedure for making an extract. Quick wash ethanol extraction (QWET) and quick wash isopropyl extraction (QWISO) are both effective methods. These solvents both capture the majority of the compounds in the plant and can be easily distilled off with minimal flavor loss. Further winterization is necessary if you would like to vaporize or dab the extract (freezing the extract in ethanol to remove the waxes - they will settle out to the bottom and can then be filtered). Otherwise it can be mixed with a carrier like coconut oil/butter/etc. and ingested. This is a great way to utilize parts of the plant that are not smoked like the stems/leaves. Using just the trichomes as the raw material for the extract will provide a very clean/potent extract with little other plant compounds like chlorophyll.

It is important to make sure all the solvent is drawn off before use...unless you like consuming straight ethanol/isopropyl...typically that is counter-intuitive tho!

I take the plunge on this great post because I have an experience with rso (I prefer to call it feco nowadays, for Full Extract Cannabis Oil).
In 2014 my dad told us that he had stage 4 pancreas cancer. Useless to say that it was too late.
Nevertheless my brother and I decided to make some oil out of a little crop growing in his garden.
We didn't save our poor father, but I can tell you this : he left this world with dignity, I mean he didn't suffer the pain from his cancer. At all. He didn't even use the morphin bag the doctor gave him back home. The oil was strong enough to bring him relief.

The year after that, I decided to go far away.
I landed in Pondicherry, India, where I spent 4 years full time. There, I could find cannabis for an incredibly low price.
So I decided to make oil again, to help some people suffering from insomnia and skin problems.
But alas, in this state (Tamil Nadu), it's impossible to find strong enough alcohol (I refuse to use any chemical).
So here what I did : I bought a water distiller, one looking like this :

Then I ran 2 or 3 times some cheap vodka I found there ; every time you run it, the ° of alcohol is up.
So I could make my feco.
Again, I have proof that the oil works wonder for insomnia. Then I gave some to my 80 years old mom. Now she sleeps like a baby ^^
And you could go on and on, there's no limit to the power of cannabis

I've stopped making tincture/feco because it's too much work.
Just as effective, but requiring more volume is herb/oil pills. and cookies.
All that really matters is how much original herb goes into a dose.
I give these to friends, and they seem to like the dosage.

Here's a recipe for 50 size 00 capsules that each contain 0.15 grams herb, which is about 40-50 mg thc each:
1. Decarb herb @ 240 F for 40 minutes. (I use Ardent decarb devices LIft and FX)
2. Grind to fine powder.
3. Combine the following:
(7.5 g Herb Powder) + ( 31 g Any Oil) + (7.5 g Lecithin) = 50*(Size 00 Caps of about 40-50 mg each)
4. Bake mixture @ 220 F for 40 minutes.
5. Put into 50 size 00 caps.

A capsule filling device, along with fat candy droppers makes this fairly easy to do.
I take 5 of these (or 3 stronger cookies) nightly, but my wife needs only 2.
I've made them using 0.2 g instead of 0.15 g each, and even more might be possible.

Whole herb might bother some people, but that's not an issue for us.

So glad I found this thread - it's a bit late, but better late than never. Dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 bladder cancer that had spread to a few lymph nodes, lungs and a lesion in the brain. He wasn't eligible for chemo due to kidney issues, so we were left with no options. Doctors said he had a couple of months to live and asked us to take him home and keep him comfortable. One final attempt was Immunotherapy, but his PDL1 marker for his tumor was 0%, so doctors said that it won't work at all, but we insisted and started the treatment anyway.

In parallel, I started RSO/FECO along with another alternate therapy. The biggest challenge I have is that there is no way for me know if the oil I am getting from my source is of good quality or not and I don't even know the % of THC (seller claims it's over 70%). This oil is extremely illegal in the country I am in, so everything is underground.

Even with all these issues, my dad has shown remarkable progress - after going through 40 to 50 grams of oil (suppository and oral-sublingual), his tumors in the bladder are down by 50% or so, lymph nodes have mostly disappeared and so have the lung nodules. Brain lesion has reduced by 20 to 25%. We are still continuing with the oil (looking at different suppliers to see if I can get good quality stuff). Along with this, I have started my own grow, but not being very successful with it - managed to get one of the seeds to germ and have started to grow it, but the rest of the seeds didn't germ. I would really appreciate help in terms of procuring seeds so that I can grow enough for my dad. If any of you have suggestions or can help with seeds, please please let me know - would really appreciate it. Thanks!

I can weigh in on RSO, I have made it a ton of times for my daughter to has Acute lymphoblstic Leukemia, and after reading this thread, I think I can help with a few things. First, Rick has a facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/ricksimpsonofficial/ and he does answer questions when asked,he also will post questions to his page, so if you have a question, it is most likely been answered. I have asked many of them. Next if you are using RSO for cancer, he has tested Everclear, and it does not produce high enough THC content for cancer, but most other diseases he says it will work on. For cancer optimum is 98% THC concentrate. I aim for at least 95% but think I get 98% because my dealer tried vaping some rso I made and it knocked him into the dirt for many hours, that was one hit, not the entire amount I gave him.

I use 99.9 and 99.99% isopropyl alcohol as my solvent, when a small amount of the rso is run across a piece of white paper, it is a beautiful amber color. That amber color when taken across a piece of paper is what you are looking for. It is always dark when sitting in a syringe, checking purity with paper is the only way I know how. It shouldn't be greenish colored when taken across the paper.

After making it many times (I make 2 oz at a time because that is about 1 week dose at 1 gram per day) I have found that using coffee filters are a bad idea, you lose a ton of product (because you have to keep changing out the filters), and it take forever, also the smell of the alcohol will drop kick your lungs. I have tried cheese cloth, faster but a ton of plant matter can get in. What I have found works the best for straining it is 4 layers of 150 thread white cotton sheets. Not only did I end up with more product with this method I have always gotten that sexy amber color.

I use a large mason jar for the first wash (and shake the living hell out of it for 3 min), strain it, then empty plant matter into a large glass bowel, and do my second wash using a steel fork to agitate it for another 3 min. I only use steel or glass when working with Isotropic alcohol. I grind mine down a little before I do the wash. A LITTLE not a lot. I have a ninja blender as my own personal grinder, but only pulse it. I don't want the weed to be powder, or really fine like when you put into a pipe, plant matter will slip though the filter if I do.

When I use my rice cooker, I point the fan slightly down to keep it a little cooler during cooking, and after I cook it, I put it on a candle warmer in a steel measuring cup and leave it there until all the bubbling is gone.

My daughter hates the taste of RSO, and gags when trying to put a blob in her mouth to swallow, so I put it into gel caps while it is still warm, and that seems to work well.

My daughter has never gotten high from it, but it did knock her out almost all day and night until she adjusted to it. Every time we change strains, she becomes very tired. So don't be shocked if you get your butt kicked all over again when you change strains.

I have my daughter drink milk or eat with it, when she doesn't it makes her feel sick to to tummy (I don't know if it makes others feel that way).

I know I am new to this forum, and I came here to learn how to grow my own bud for my daughter, and also find what auto strains actually have 20% or higher THC, but when it comes to RSO, I know a little, and wanted to share. Hope I didn't over step my bounds because I am new here.

I can attest to the fact that RSO works for Leukemia, it saved my daughters life.

Thanks for the post . Very insightful but also very disappointing to find that the Everclear RSO that ive made to this point will in Ricks opinion be useless for cancer treatment.
