Good morning guys! Perfect day @ the beach here in the SE. I have not grown myself as of yet. I am planning on starting with a simple one plant, soil grow. I have some nirvana auto fems. I was thinking I would try a 30 gallon aluminum garbage can with an LED. My newb brain tells me this would be a great reflective surfuce, yet I have only seen one thread suggesting this. I am guessing there are some issues with this method, or it would be more common??? Also, (despite reading alot already) I am still confused about the size of LED light that would be at least sufficient for this amount of space. Any and all advices would be most appreciated!!!

I'm trying to picture the setup. It would definitely be different!
My concerns would be ease of access, and if the can is ribbed you may have hot spots to deal with. I bet you could build or buy a cabinet that would fit your needs for about the same money.... and personally I think good ol' flat white paint will give you better, more even lighting.
As to LED's, I'm sure someone will chime in. I just don't know enough about them.
Happy Growing, Friend! :woohoo1:

Hello dm,

It would certainly be a first ! And could possibly work. But for a first grow I would keep it simple. Get used to the watering and feeding regimes and get to understand the life cycle of the Autoflower.
But which ever you decide, we will be here to help along the way.

Good luck chum and Welcome to AFN, eP.

:welcome: TO AFN BRO :welcome:
I would not use the trash can, get you some Smart pot's. That way you can get some air to those root's. LED's are great. What size grow room do you plan on setting up? that will tell you the size light you will need.

I took your advice and went with a 2x2x4 tent for $75

Oh, Brother, you're so screwed now.......
:crying:
Seriously, you'll be glad you did, miller. That extra room pays off well.:peace:
If you start a journal now, before you even crack beans, we can help you get all your ducks in a row:biggrin:
Your first entry, I'd give a rundown of soil, lights, nutes, space, meters (for pH etc), all the nitty gritty.
Consider me pre-subbed:thumbsup:
