Greetings all, long time reader, first time poster. I would like to comment on how impressed i am with the site, people and grows but dont want to sound all gushy and ass-kissy. Did I mention how impressed I am with this site, the helpful people and the awesome grows? Anyway, I would appreciate some direction regarding ventilation, here is where i'm at. Building insulated 8x8x8 "box". Using window ac for temp control but am getting stuck on best way to balance conserving cooled air vs. fresh air exchange. I am considering an inline fan with carbon filter that sucks from room and vents back into it providing air movement and reusing cool air, a spring type damper to balance pressure (if needed), and passive air intake as needed or CO2 sup. Initially the space will be under-utilized and not crowded so hopefully it wont get too stale. Please show me the error of my ways or the holes in my reasoning before its too late. BTW starting with CFL and blackstar 240 and diesel ryder regulars in soil with TLO style.

If you reuse the air all you are doing is providing movement, so I would think that you would have to supplement CO2. I am going to be dealing with the same issue. I have a room in my basement that I can't ventilate to outside air. so I will have to supply the CO2. I was thinking of making a good old corn mash, then I will have the everclear for the green dragon I will be wanting to make.
Add a speed controller to your inline fan set up. 8x8x8 feet? Thats a room dude. :booya:
Do you have forced air heat/ac? If so can you run a flex duct up in it to pull fresher air down wih a small booster fan.

I have considered fermentation for co2 but not there yet. Speed controller seems like a good idea, thanks.
Anyone else before I finish construction? If the ac unit dosen't kill me on the bill I may try to do a partial room air exchange periodically but I have enough confidence that my building technique will initially allow for ample passive intake. I have also considered using a tent to flower and just carbon filter that space (smaller fans/filter = <$$). Would eventually like to try a little seed production with crosses b/n Diesel Ryder and 4 Kannabia strains if hte seeds are viable.

Your plan sounds fine, once you get a tribe of girls going you will need to filter the whole room.
Hey man your setup is a lot like mine. I have a 9x6.5x4 room I custom built with an ac unit controlling intake. I use a 6" inline fan with carbon filter on exhaust. Is your ac unit pulling air from outside? Where does the ac unit get its air from. Mine is a window unit mounted into the room pulling fresh air from outside so I constantly have fresh air. I use a rheostat on my exauhst fan to control the in/out air exchange.
Oh and if your room is well insulated you can buy a small window unit. Mine is 5000 btu and controls my room perfectly. When is not cooling the fan is constantly on to bring fresh air in. It doesn't make my bill go up much. Maybe 10$ a month.

I will have a window ac in custom built room as well. Just don't know enough now to know how to customize efficiently. I was thinking 5000btu but for $50 more, the 6500btu has a 5 year total warranty (instead of 1) plus other options, just hope it isn't too powerful, guess I can run it on low. My biggest concern is balancing cold air loss to venting vs. metabolic needs of the garden, and "over pressurizing" the room(hence the idea for a spring tension damper) . Ac will draw air from surrounding garage space unless I have problems and need to duct outside air. room is pretty tightly sealed and insulated so far.

Also considering in future to have seperate "tents" with different controllers for individual microclimates balanced off of main space (veg, flower, clone for photos).
