Yes.

I don't screw the lid down straight away. I crank it with the lid just held on to break up the buds a bit, then screw it half way and crank it, then screw it all the way to finish off.

I'll have to try that. I ended up breaking the buds into smaller pieces and cranked by the arm, instead of using the handle.
