Lighting Advantages to 24/0 light cycle for Auto's

This guy says it better...

Most green plants are classified as either C3 or C4 which represents how carbon(C) is used during photosynthesis.

C4 plants temporarily store carbon dioxide(CO2) over the dark period to use for photosynthesis during the day. C4 plants slow down photosynthesis once the stored CO2 is used up and they need to gather it from the air. Which is why trees slow down photosynthesis in the afternoon even though the sun is still bright. This does NOT apply to cannabis.

C3 plants(cannabis/veggies) gather CO2 only during the light period when they are photosynthesizing. During the dark period these plants only use oxygen for their metabolic life processes. They don't uptake CO2, nor do they use it. As soon and as long as the light is on, C3 plants gather and use CO2 for photosynthesis.

C3 plants also have the ability to use higher concentrations of CO2 than what is found in the air. If the light is bright enough and the plants have sufficient nutes, their growth rate will accelerate from it(2000ppm vs. 400ppm of CO2), which increases yield. They can do this continuously, wihtout a dark period throughout the vegetative stage.

The dark reaction is a process of photosynthesis that takes place in both darkness and light. It uses ATP and NADPH molecules that hold energy absorbed from light to break apart CO2 into it's base components. Because it's called a dark reaction and can occur in the dark, some people(Jorge) have said darkness is needed for this to occur. This Is Not So.

Again people get anthropomorphic with their plant needs. People need rest, so plants must too. This is false as well. Light means growth. Scientifically. Although 18/6 will shock your plants less when you switch to 12/12, it's a personal choice whether you would rather sacrifice a little growth for a quicker adjustment or less photo confusion. If you want to save money or energy that's a personal choice too. Do what you need to do to make your growing scenario work.

I noticed ERB referred to the vegetative period of a plant ... I wonder what his thoughts were regarding the flowering period ?

i run Autos 24/0 because that's what suits me and my growing conditions. i have seen no ill effect on the plants, but i haven't ran other light schedules for comparison. It would be interesting to see a live grow with a side-by-side comparison, between 18/6, 20/4 and 24/0.

I ran the AutoBlueberry in my sig at 24/0 due to cold conditions.
She was an amber trich'd beast.. An awesome smoke too...:bong:
She's the girl in my avatar...

Very nice Duggy ;) BB is one of my fav's! Nice grow journal to BTW...

1st pics NLb auto

Im just getting to figure out how to post pics, so I'm hoping this works..
Northern Light blue auto... wanted to run it because of the cross with auto blueberry.. Running 2 girls but only posting pics of this 1. Im at day 22 w/ preflowers just starting to show. She's roughly 5-6 inch tall and spread out to around 10-11 inch in dia. Around the second set of leaves i started noticing shes was wanting N. You might can notice it in her lower leaves.. Both are growing great though with no other problems.

With your experience lighting 24/0.. whats the average height you get? I'm sure they would stay shorter running 24/0 making the buds more compact and dense.

I thought to do my actual grow 20/4 because of stress and height, because I was thinking giving them 4 hours to rest and do the CO Thing would lower the height.

hum... nobody know exactly, till someone will make a quit big comparrison
but there is a problem doing so, because if you do 3 growrooms with the same strains and everything the same exept the lightperiod...

...its difficult to analyyze results due to the facts:

#some strains may like different lighcycles (for example blueberry fits 18/6 best, but whitewidow might like 20/4 best or whatever)
#different light perriods may cause the lady to need different nutries. (maybe a plant getting 24/0 needs more oxygen to the roots, due to the fact the resting/dark period may effect / less than our knowledge actauly fits)
#temperatur could be a matter, having exact the same temperatur 24/0 may cause problems
#and so on...

the only fact we actually know is, that we are at the very beginning again. everything we know about indoor is kinda changing (not saying everythin is false, but we need to readjust things for each strain, each lightcycle and temperatur)

my plan is to do 20/4 with 30W LED Panel mixed with 15W Warmwhite bulb per plant and giving the feel of sunset via 2hours of 26W UV-B before lights turned off.

edit: could you share your exp. on height depending on lightincreasement?

Growing great so far.. Only thing I've noticed is they tend to need more food.. But not much. The plant can tell you if you know what to look for. Haven't had any heat probs yet either, T5's run actually cool, plus far less wattage for the amount of lumens they put out. I've noticed with autos 2 of the same seed will grow diffrent plants.
