Coco Coir - Fiber or Pith?

My google-fu fails me again dammit.

I seem to have determined that coco fiber is primarily used in textiles while the pith is intended for horticulture.
Chips are for orchids so nevermind em'.

Anyhoo...
Which is preferable for use with cannabis, pith or fiber?
And of course, why?

Erm, clarify da question.

I used coco coir fiber instead of peat in my DIY soil, is there any real difference betwixt using fiber over using pith?
I did find one, count it out loud now, one reference to the difference 'tween the two with respect to use in soil.

Pith holds more water, not so hot for aeration.
Fiber provides great aeration but not so good at holding water.

I used a product called Plant!t coco, that we bought locally. I just took a quick look around to see if i could find it online. Nope. All I find under that label is "chips" and a planting mix. The stuff we got was what I would call fiber. It holds water like crazy. Wish i still had the wrapper.

The label thang got me thinking so I went back to the order confirmation, verified what I'd gotten and then went to the brand website.

The description on the Down To Earth site sez:
"... This coconut coir fiber is a compressed, all purpose medium-shredded fiber and pith blend..."
Fiber is longish and pith is pretty much dust and by howdy that does describe the product I have.
In that regard my initial question is rather moot in that I be using both!

As it is, the seedling mix I made (approx. 4 parts coco and 1 part dairy manure compost) seems to both drain well and retain moisture. 5 day old seedlings are looking happy.
The potting soil I made up has 15% of the coco in it.

Time will tell I s'pose.

Your description sounds like what i got. It worked good for my seedling mix. I got into some trouble by putting it in the bottom of my big pots thinking it would help drainage and keep the soil from getting out the holes. It looked to me like it retarded drainage but wasn't necessarily the only culprit. It should be fine as part of a potting mix.

I use something called texas or texan organics and used the plant!T as well both from amazon and the Plant!T from local sources as well. works really nice for my soil and 11-13 LB block is cheap and fills a 20 gallon container for me.4.5 gallons of water and it dont need to be drain at all LOL works nice!

Ive used the chips in heavier mixes and the coco bricks.and once used it get more like a shaved peat over grows,so it vastly improves as with a lot of organics.

its the Plant!T version.same thing.compressed coco coir medium. couldnt find a pic.i got a cpl posted in my organic thread somewhere LOL!
