Old Reviews Control Wizard Accurate 8 pH meter

Got the 'no name look alike' today. I think I might have lucked out on this one as it seems to work well and be sturdily made. On this one the needle rest at seven when it is not being used and it says to leave it for around ten minutes in the soil. Don't know if this jives with the Wizard 8 or not. In use it looks like the in soil time is closer to a minute as it doesn't move much after that.

I've been using the Accurate 8 for the last 6 months and highly recommend it. No serious soil grower should be without a soil ph meter and the Accurate 8 works well. I bought it for use outdoors but found it is just as useful indoors. I can accurately lime my soil to 6.5 before planting and monitor any fluctuations during the grow. I never check runoff anymore. As long as my feeding and watering is in the low 6's, deficiencies are a thing of the past. I see growers constantly dumping calmag on their plants, something dolomite lime has in abundance, when their issue is likely ph. Check out the ph charts that JM (and others) keep posting to see that tipping out of the 6.5 sweet spot can lead to big issues.

Thanks Muddy for the thread and the Accurate 8 recommendation.

A side note on use of the "8" or any soil meter I guess; you'll get the best results if you use the meter the day after watering. That will give the water and soil some time to react and stabilize. If the soil starts to get too dry, you will see the needle twitching and your reading will likely be way off, usually high.

Sweet Baby Jesus, this thing is WAY bigger than I thought it was going to be. It's also the most instantaneous and accurate soil meter I've ever seen. I had no idea a soil meter could be this fucking fantastically fabulous! I give it five stars out of four. If you're serious about soil growing at all I HIGHLY advise you get one of these babies. Most internet sites are out of stock as they use the same distributor, make sure to send the site an e-mail first to check and see if they have them. I had to go through three companies and the third one listed them as in stock when they were not, so they special ordered it and air shipped it across the country for free.
I'm super stoked I got this thing, I thought I had used enough lime/oyster shell in my soil mix but it's riding at about 5.2. Whoops, glad I caught that early!

Also, my roots organics potting soil is reading at 6.5 right out of the bag. Way to go, Roots!

"I gota get the eight"

I got mine quite a while ago after i saw Muddy singin their praise. I made all 3 batches of the TLO soils with it and it seems to be spot on as the AKR's are lovin their dirt.
