Grow Room DR90 (90x90x185) grow tent question

Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum and a first time grower. I was wondering what kind of exhaust fan(m3/h) and filter will I need for Secret Jardin's Dark Room 90 (90x90x185cm) tent ? I plan on using a LED panel. Another question is how many plants can I fit in this space? I ll be using air pots (10 to 15lt max).. Looking forward for opinions...

For exhaust and filter you can use 4 inch and be OK.

I am finishing up a run now with a tent the same size. I jammed 9 photoperiod hydro plants in there with minimal veg time, but I would not recommend that lol... It has been a lot of maintenance.

4 plants should work in there without tooo much trouble, but you will probably have some work to do keeping them all the same height etc. And if you get a monster plant you might have to train her pretty intensely.

I use a 4inch fan and it works fine. I started with 6 inch but had to use a fan speed controller at the minimum to make it not suck out all the humidity, so I switched to 4 inch fan that is about 180cfm and I speed control it down to half or so depending.

For a near 3 foot x 3 foot tent, I would suggest starting with two plants to get your proverbial feet wet. If that goes well, try a third plant or look into a scrog grow. I'm in a 2 foot x 4 foot tent and grow only two plants. I have a humidifier in my tent which prevents me from growing three plants. I like space between my plants anyway.

If you want a recommendation for lighting, check out the Autocob at www.cobshop.net. Fantastic lights built by member @BigSm0. Low heat throw, no noise as there is no fan, .49 amp, small and easy to move and nearly bright as the sun.

When you go to buy the inline fan/carbon filter, be sure that the cfm of the filter is the same or higher (preferably) than the inline fan. A 4" fan/filter will work, or bump up to a 6" fan/filter for more wiggle room. I use a Variac controller for my fan speed. And I love it. Very incremental. If you will be using a timer, make sure it can handle the amps.

My 4inch fan is an inline fan by Ventech, which I don't think they make anymore, but it's pretty generic.

Fan speed controllers are a must IMO, I use a 20$ active air controller in both my tents. If your fan is going too fast and makes your filter ineffective, you can always dial it down. Or if the temp in your tent is getting too low you can turn the fan down etc. Very useful tool.

Not sure how many cfm lower your fan needs to be, but a good filter is worthwhile.

I use a Phresh filter outside my tent to scrub the whole room and it works better than any other filter I've had. Expensive though... But worth it IMO.

As a first time grower, you were wise to choose autos.

I have a taller tent with the same 9 sq ft, but use Top Feed Deep Water Culture.
I've grown from 2-6 plants in it, but the number should be dictated by strain size.
6 is too many, and I only did it my first grow ever.
Right now I've got 4 in it, and I expected them to be roughly similar small size, but they aren't.
For taller plants 2 is my preferred number.

So my long-winded answer to your "how many" question is 2 plants if the breeder listed height is 90+ cm, and 4 otherwise.

Lighting is a complicated issue.
Right now one plant is about 5 ft tall, and another different strain is about 1 ft tall.
That leads to lighting issues that traditional LED panels have trouble dealing with.
The tall plant needs lights at max distance, but that doesn't give the shorter plants enough light.
Now I'm supplementing the short plants with COBs, and wonder whether I should be using them instead of QuantumBoards.

For those of us who crave the variety that multiple strains can provide during the same grow, COBs might be a better way to go than QBs.
Each plant can have its own COB placed at differing distances, depending on plant height.
In fact, I'm going to switch to four 60 watt COBs from cobshop.net instead of a 300 watt QB to finish this grow.
I think the ability to position each light exactly will easily overcome the fewer watts.

As a first time grower, resist the temptation to do too much plant manipulation.
Pruning, topping, scrogging, etc are unnecessary.
Leaf tucking and a little LowStressTraining can do most of what they do with far less effort.

Thanks for the useful info bro.. I ll go for 2 plants to start with and both of them will be of the same seed/strain and indicas ofc as they are more compact.. Specifically I ll try Northern Lights auto by RQS or sensi.. not sure yet for the breeder.. I plan on putting them in 12.5 lt pots so they dont get out of control.. since its my first grow I got to get the hang of it.. only LST and maybe topping.. not sure yet.. Im also about to buy a Phresh filter according to ur opinions bigger tha my fan (400mh/3).. and I believe im good to go..

howdi pal and welcome to afn for your size tent i would go with 2 or 3 at a push i also would get a bigger fan than you need i have a high power 5 inch rvk fan and rhino filter so i would say go with a 5 inch fan also secret Jardin do some great fans that clip on your poles monkey fans there called for moving air and they dont take up valuable space clipping on the poles
