Im interested to see if im alone in this or if others have my same thought process and WHY...
I spend about an hour or so a day sitting in front of my tent with it open. I do this for personal peace and it is a great opportunity to evaluate the grow. More often than not my cat and dog find their way to me. The dog (red nose pit) laus next to me. The car will sometimes sit next to me or venture her front paws into the tent to see whats up. I do let her nibble the fan leaves of plants after 2 or 3 weeks. She only takes about 1/4 inch off 1 finger so i dont mind.. I want to eventually want to involve the kids when theyre a bit older... What age would you start involving kids in your garden... Obviously not the harvest, but like water and pruning. Cleanup.

committing 1 crime to avoid commiting multiple crimes... is it ethical? is it moral?

I think it would all depend on the legality in your location, first. After that, I'd make sure the nutes were something that wouldn't cause your kid/kids to have a reaction.
With that being said, I'd honestly wait until they're learning new things quickly, And have an understanding of what they're doing and why. Like... 10-12 if you're in a legal state/area so everything won't be getting chewed on, and they know how to keep a secret if needed.

I have had a cat tear into my 4x8 tent and destroy every seedling and crap in one of the buckets. But I had no clue the little bugger got in my basement. After that I lost two more plants young ones cats are a no no IMO. But I have outdoor cats that the odd one gets inside. I have padlock control now. I doubt your cat would get that chance or even take it but it happen to me. My children found out about it when they asked questions I could not lie to them. And they kept there mouths shut when they did the rounds at the school. They would make sure I did not leave a high times in the bathroom or on a counter before letting friends in which I was known to do with my magazines They are well rounded adults now. That love WEED LOL.

So i currently do the sneak away or after bed or before i leave in the am. I do agree with the 12ish age. I already have them in the regular flower/shrubery garden. Dig/water, etc. But of course theyre kids with expanded emotions so they tend to overlove. Lol.
The cat is never alone in the grow room. Both pets leave with me. I call if one isnt in there, just to confirm. But i could TOTALLY see my cat mowing down my whole setup. And yea she'd probably crap in the soil. Just doing the cat instinct things. Thats actually why i let mine nibble. Its natural amd doesnt damage the plant enough to sgock it, but does apply some naturally occurring stress, making it push harder in bloom. [emoji16]

Hmm. Very tough question about the children.
I have a young teen and pre teen. They know about the grow. We are very open about use and meds. So far it's gone better than I expected. But I went with my gut and heart feeling on the plant and try to let them see that it is 100% acceptable for adults. Not a bad thing like drugs.

And full disclosure. I used to peddle in drug use. Not stuff I often talk about. Made my share of bad choices.
Not to get into details because anyone with kids knows the feeling.

But EVERY time we do something we deem out of place for them we try to hide it. And EVERY time that puts the kids on high alert! They are perceptive and they know when things are off or wrong. And then they become more curious. Which leads to lies broken trust and just not a good time.

So imo at the very least. Be as open as possible to your use and don't try to hide it. If non legal state. Might be wise to keep the grow quiet though.
Kids will be kids and they will always want to fit in or be cool. So protect yourself and the kids and keep some secrets.

Cheers man. The grow really is a sacred place. I also enjoy my grow room time. My cat likes to try to chill under the lights. I try to keep the dogs and cat out for I don't like smoking hair lol.

Peace stoners

Well it's illegal here but as a medicinal user/grower I've had to deal with both kids and neighbours (I had a grow in the communal garden - 8 apartments) - and I also have two daughters. I think the age (with the kids) was about 14 -15 here - just because it seems a point where they start to grow up damn fast (esp girls) and well they should know. But I don't grow for profit or fun... and it's pretty easy to explain the opiated ogre v's the slow stoner - and also to explain the importance of NEVER telling anyone.

Having gone back to the OP @Hypathetical Gardener - hell if you can get kids involved in planting and growing anything let alone cropping and preserving it's a WIN.

These days kids get crap strawberries from supermarkets all year round (and expect it), but if I say hey come to the allotment and pick your own - but don't wait 3 weeks cause that'll be the season over they will look at you stupidly - like 'why bother'.

Oh and my cat has never shown interest in my weed - what are you growing.

Catmint is the same family as Canna n Nettles I think :D
