I started seeds off as though they would by hydro, in small rockwool cubes, then transfered to 3.5 inch netpots. Moved to 2 gallon pots, filled with half peat moss, half perlite, 4 table spoons lime, and 1 teaspoon miracle grow. Kept in yard on sunny days (we get very little light, even in best spots). The soilless mix compacted, and the tops of the netpots, hydroton, and rockwool were exposed to light and dry as hell.

Assume they should be ripped. Does it look more like dehydration or fertilizer burn, or both (fertilizer burn being worse, due to dehydration). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The last picture is one of the healthier ones made with same mix.

The worst plants had holes in leaves, although I killed a couple of leaf-cutters I found on them.

Thanks!!!!!

Did a autopsy and figured it out. The hydroton needed water many times a day to get the roots long enough to feed on soilless.

Going to rip the rest of the bad ones, and hand water the hydroton a few times a day, and constantly top the soilless mix.

Here are most of them.

Roots never made it out of netpots. The root area needed a hydro feeding schedule.

I see Alex. The taproot looks healthy. Trial and error for sure when trying a new technique.

So, you have a top soil mix and a lower layer of hydrotron which puts you in a hydro type of grow.

Good luck with your adjustments.

I started like I had to for hydro. Rockwool to hydroton in netpots. Then placed into soilless (peat/verm with some lime to drop PH). The soilless was drenched, but the inner hydroton zone and rockwool were arid.

Took some hydro mix, and diluted, and adjusted PH. Will water the centers with that. Has all the hardcore crap (root excelurator, etc.).

was going to say kill them , other then the last pic one , it looks like even if they survive they will be runts

and i kid you not , ive grown a runt full term and had a 1 inch fully flowered plant

unless you have ample space it is better to kill runts and start new seeds then to let the runts waste space

next time go straight into soiless , no cube and definately no hydroton , you want a consistant grow medium , if you are at all worried about what way to plant the seed when going straight into the soiless then plant them sideways , the taproot feels the gravity and will curl down , if you are aware of and confident what direction to plant the seed then great

peace

These are from 2 hydro AF's. Is this magnesium deficiency? I run PH at 5.6, might try 5.7. Some others are showing signs, but not as bad. They were sun leaves.
