Happy frog used to be my go to soil for autos. Not too hot and it comes in a nice large bag. I grew some real beauties with it a few years ago.

However, the quality has taken a real nose dive. The last few bags I've purchased have been very heavy and become waterlogged quite quick. It has been compacting on me way too much.

Then this last bag happened, and I'm furious to the point of quitting happy frog. I opened this brand new bag and found it was full of large woody debris, tons of thumb sized rocks, undecomposed roots from whatever soil they are recycling and live seed sprouts in the fucking bag.

WHAT THE FUCK FOX FARMS?!?!?!?

I get that the rocks and debris can happen, and maybe my bag was the one they get by scraping the bottom of the barrel, but the live sprouts and roots are inexcusable. I'm not sure who they are contracting out to in Oregon, but they are fucking it up!

Fox farms just lost a customer.

No bueno....I hate that success and popularity almost always equates to a drop in standards.

Nope, I have never bought a bag of soil that had bugs in it. Any time I have had pests it has been my own dumb fault for letting my guard down.

I've been using happy frog for a couple years now exclusively. The soil usually has fungus gnats and sometimes I get a weird bag. The last 2 bags that I bought one bag out weighed the other by at least 50% LOL. But I work around it by sterilizing the soil (deep freeze for 48 hours) to kill the fungus gnats. I have never had to worry about my soil ph ever so I'm ok with HF ATM. Sorry about your bullshit bag piggy :pighug: :peace:

It's definitely hit or miss. I have gotten some FFHF bags in the past with pH numbers in the low 5s that caused me major headaches during the grows. I could dump lime in there by the pound and it just didn't want to rise. But it's usually pretty reliable and does the job simply with nothing but some perlite added. I currently have various cannabis, vegetable, and flower plants in containers with different soils. Everything in the Happy Frog is growing better than the plants in Sunshine Rain Forest Blend (their version of HF) and the Sunshine Advanced #4. I wish they were all in Happy Frog, that's for sure. Then again, when I was fighting pH issues I'm sure I said I would never buy Fox Farms again, but here I am... :dunno:

Wassup guys i too use fappy frog, my best plants have come from it i started using it after ocean forest would burn my plants up and i like it much better. I will say though i definitely agree with the heaviness thing. My last bag was like damp/moist (not like a nice fine soil that would run through your fingers if u picked up a handful). Pretty sure most of the bags before that werent damp like that though. As far as bugs i recently been getting a TON of tiny gnats on my sticky traps but i think they just come around this time of year i dont think theyre from the soil cause theyre on sticky traps in other places around the house as well not just around my tent. I been using mine with added perlite, dolomite lime at 1 tablespoon per gallon, and a crushed mosquito dunk..it seems to be working ok but i agree i think they could tighten up and be more consistent with quality :Sharing One:

I already swore off of it once, but this is really unacceptable. When I have some more time on my hands I'm going to write the company and complain. If I'm dropping 18 bucks on a bag of dirt it damn well better be some good dirt. The variation we see from location to location is because they are contracting out the soil making in different regions, and they need to know if it's coming in sub par. As far as I'm concerned it's the roots that are inexcusable. Of course the soil is made form used soil and other sources, but it should be thoroughly composted enough that roots shouldn't be present, or at least mostly broken down. Someone could get root aphids from this shit in the condition I received it, and I've been known to angrily storm an office before because of bullshit like this. I don't play the phone game when I can just loudly complain at your business where people are actively shopping. Gets quicker and better results.

I'm really pissed about this bag.

Sorry bout that mr piggy :Sharing One: hope everything gets solved!

Sorry to hear about the woes Mr. Piggy,

I have used them for about a year now, no complaints here. But they might need a new contact with another company in your area. That is why it is a great idea to complain, and they might just throw in a rebate.

Just sayin' hope it works out

Peace
