Hi all :)

I have a few grows under my belt, the first few were full of problems and i made ALL the mistakes auto-growers can !

My second to last grow wasn't too bud but my last one was what i consider my first proper grow, i got roughly an ounce per plant, four ounces from four plants, each in 2L pots.

I'm attempting to do it again, this time the strains are :

Three of World of Seeds Afghan Kush Ryder :

pic.jpg

"Afghan Kush Ryder is a cross between Afghan Kush and Ruderalis. Our Afghan Kush comes from Kush strains with 100% Indica genes cultivated in a small area in the Hindu Kush mountains in Northern Pakistan. This cross is a good example of Cannabis Ruderalis, which, over the generations, has been crossed and re-crossed to produce a strain with Indica characteristics and autoflowering genetic programming of Ruderalis. Afghan Kush Ryder can be grown indoors or outside and can reach between 40-80cm or even higher. The effect is extremely potent, so relaxing that it’s almost narcotic, which is why the medicinal value is so high. The taste and aroma, like its predecessor, Afghan Kush, evoke the best very aromatic Afghan hash. As flowering does not depend on the photoperiod, she can be grown at any time of the year although yields improve the better the environmental conditions. A good tip for outdoor growing is to plant out as soon as the good weather starts then repeat a few days before harvesting the first crop to give two good harvests a year. Some growers do more, though owing to the less favourable conditions, these crops tend to be less productive. For indoor growing we recommend a 20/4 light/dark cycle throughout."

Last summer when UK temperatures were high (up to 35 celsius) my AKR's did very well, even though i had no outside venting or cooling equipment, they seem to do just fine in the heat, not surprising considering their origins i suppose.

I've decided to always do three of a strain i know and love, as well as one i haven't tried before, that way i get a taste of something new every grow and know whether or not it's worth buying again.

The unknown strain this time is Delicious Seeds Auto Critical Jack Herer :

pic.jpg

"The genetic development of this strain was a complex process. It is a cross between two autoflowering strains developed from some very special Critical Bilbo Auto and Jack Herer Auto clones. The result is a rapid auto that grows vigorously, branches out well and produces abundant flowers. Stress severely affects flowering of automatic strains so optimum conditions will enable this plant to fulfil its potential. For this reason, it’s better not to transplant and make sure it has sufficient soil. 7 litres should be enough indoors while no more than 11 litres should be needed outdoors. Grows strongly and energetically from the start. The first flowers should become apparent after around 15/20 days following germination. The plant will continue to grow for a few more days and may double or triple in size. Maturity is usually reached within 65-70 after germination. Owing to its well.branched structure, this is a very productive strain. Critical Jack Herer has a sweet incense aroma that gets stronger and spicier as the buds are crumbled. The taste is spicy with fruity top notes and peppery, coffee back notes. The effect is instantaneous, strong and mainly in the body though it packs a considerable cerebral punch that is very pleasant and enjoyable. At the start, it’s almost euphoric, causing giggles, talkativeness or a desire to get stuff done or go for a walk. After a while, the effect becomes more relaxing, making is suitable for a variety of uses."

This is the growing environment :

Lighting : Plug and Grow 300W vegging CFL and a P&G 250W flowering CFL.

Soil : Plant Magic soil supreme plus (a good organic compost).

Nutes : Plant Magic old timer organic nutes, yum :)

Schedule : 18/6

I have a carbon filter and a fan that suits the space of the grow area.

I'm making a new growbox so it may be a week or two before the grow starts.

The DIY shop were 1cm off on one of the cuts !

I tried to cut it off with my jigsaw but it's only meant to cut to 10mm and this board is 15mm thick so the blade bent and the cut went wavy :

too deep for jigsaw.jpg

I bought a hole saw set to do holes for intake and extraction, the first hole went okay but took nearly all the power in the drill battery, which takes 3 hours to recharge (shoulda got a spare!).

Anyway, just waiting for the recharge and i will finish the passive intake holes.

Hey Steely

It's all sounding great! Looks like you've got some DIY skills!! :High 5:
With my DIY skills, i'd have been better off making my first cab out of lego! ^_^

I'm subbed - hope it all turns out great for you!

Blue ^_^

Thanks blue, the way mine's turned out it shoulda been lego too, at least there would be no gaps !

I've put it msotly together now :

But because the wood wasn't cut to the right length and my jigsaw wasn't up to the job of correcting it i have gaps around the extraction :

And at the intake :

I'll fill the gaps with expanding foam, sand it down then paint over.

Just waiting for the seeds now :

I love this strain. Aye steelrat nothing but good karma headed your way. I did 3 of the AKR myself my last run. I also grew one on my current run, she was harvested recently. She is some pretty good smoke I am sure you will enjoy her.

Thanks growdady yes i've grown her before too and she is a gorgeous smoke :)

The seeds still haven't arrived yet, it's been a week since they were marked as despatched so i hope they get here today, if not i have some other seeds lying around.

I've installed a bracketing system in the box so that it's easy to change distance between light and canopy, oi prefer to have the light fixed and move the plant shelf :

I still have to sort out a fixture for the carbon filter and buy a clip-on fan then we're all sorted :)

Now just waiting for the seeds to come to their new home :

The postman arrived with my expanding foam filler but not my seeds :(

expanding foam.jpg

Not sure if i want to wait a couple of more days or just get on with some other seeds ...

First time i've used expanding foam - very messy stuff !

It's not a very tidy job but it can be sanded down :

Will update soon when the seeds arrive or i decide they aren't arriving and go with other seeds.

OK i recieved an email from attitude seedbank and it turns out the potscode lookup function on their website came up with another street of the same name a few miles away from me.

I was stoned when i ordered so didn't notice !

I think there's some irony there ...

I've asked them if they'd like to resend them for free but i don't have high hopes so i may have to reorder.

So it looks like i won't be germing until next week :(
