Hey guys I was wondering what amount is considered too much ph up...

I just started bloom nutes at only 1/4 strength and since my cal mag and base nutes lower the pH of my water a lot it took 82 drops to bring it to 6.5.

Now as I increase the amount of nutrients in theory I'll need more drops so ill probably be having to add 150+ drops per gallon of water...

Is that way to much? Am I asking for salt buildup by adding that much? Thanks for any help.

As long as your ph isn't too high then you haven't used too much. I've never known anyone to use 'drops' as measurements before. I always used measuring spoons for that. As far as salt build up, I'd think that would occur because of your nutes long before occurring because of ph up. I'm sure someone will be able to correct me if I'm wrong.

That does sound like alot. i used the "drops" method also. I know that with plain water it takes me 2 drops to get it to 6.5 and 6 drops once i added 1/4 of grow nutes. i have noticed with high PK or Bloom nutes it takes double sometimes more to get it to 6.5. i say if you where using around 30-35 drops before than 82 could be possible. but those numbers to me seem awfuly high imo, but it could just be how strong your nutes are so i cant say your doing anything wrong, if the ph says 6.5 everytime i say add alittle epsom salt every once and a while if your worried about salt build up. :Sharing One:

:Grow & Show..:Never ever go over 82 drops,you don't want to know what happens.:roflcry:

I also use drop method as a measurement but I'm mixing 1000ml of solution per plant (so about .26 of a gallon) and I'm headed the other way...pH Down.

My solution goes down but not that much :) I still need to help it down a bit more. So something seems wonky in Denmark.

With either up OR Down, there is only so much adjustment a solution will take before the Up & Down will start to loose their
ability to adjust...a saturation point beyond which additional adjustment just won't occur. But this usually happens if you're going
back and forth trying to hit the sweet spot and overshooting it multiple times. :)

I thought you were suppose to ph your water before adding nutes.

I've always done the opposite, as per Seymour Buds. If you ph first then add nutes the nutes will change your ph, so you'll have to adjust your ph twice. If you just add nutes then adjust your ph you'll be saving either ph up or ph down.

Example: If your water is 7.0 and you are shooting for 5.8, first add your nutes. Typically they'll lower your ph, so let's say your water with nutes is now 6.5. Add ph down to get to 5.8.

If you lower from 7.0 to 5.8 first, then add your nutes you will have to adjust again afterwards, so it's twice as much adjusting. I grew DWC exclusively for the past two years or so (here's the beginning of the end of my dwc days: Chaze SuperAuto) and picked up everything I know from this site. Again, if I'm mistaken I'm sure someone will correct me.

Exacto...

You can just test it to get data on where it is on it's own. But you may as well get all the players on the field before you start playing.

thanks guys i think its the cal-mag thats lowering it so much because ive never had to add that much ph up until i started using general organics cal-mag...

Ive been adding 1 teaspoon of cal-mag every watering to act as a buffer..once i add that teaspoon it goes from around 7 to like 5 or lower....then when i add my bloom nutes it goes even lower...

last feeding was 1 tsp Cal-Mag, 3 tbs Big Bloom, 1/2 tsp Tiger Bloom and that needed 82 drops up...im gonna do some test with water with higher ppm and see what happens

if also suggest if you have to use that many drops stop at your local drug store pick up some medicine syringes for cheap and measure 82 in mL. after 50 drops i know id be ready to dump the whole bottle in! lol not really.

Hey pop its better to ph after adding nutes because once they do get mixed in its going to change your ph and sometimes drasticly. what i do is get my water, mix my nutes wait over night and in the morning i adjust my ph and let it sit for 10-15 min and if its its a steady number i feed.
