Both ways are fine I do it as it grows little bit at a time. But I've seen great grows where they do it 3 times all at once

I got a nice fat doobie rolled up and a hot cup of coffee with my name on it ....don't have to work today so Monday is going pretty well so far ....heading for 80f today so im going to enjoy some sunshine in the veggie garden later
