Nice thread J, gonna really help me out in the comming weeks, first question I got is about timers, ive got 2 grownorthern ms04s that I think run at about 120w each, is it ok to plug both into 1 timer? Or will I need a contactor? Reason I ask is in my marine tank days a lot of people where reporting timers not lasting long with 250w+ lights
Also any links to tried and tested timers would be good

Anyone looking at getting into LEDs please be aware that the wattage some retailers offer,is not always the actual wattage the LED draws.for example say you see an LED advertised as a 240w,check to see if that is actual power drawn or just 80 LEDs x 3w chips,80x3=240w,this is slightly misleading info and it's always best to call or email them if you can't find the actual power drawn on there site.buying the correct amount of light for your space is something you want to get right as shelling out for LEDs can be pretty pricy.i have noticed more and more companies now adding the actual power drawn, but there is still those sneaky ones out there trying it on :smokebuds:

Good question dude my analogue timers are rated to 3200w (for kettles i supose lol)and I have ran 500w of LED through one, may be worth while getting a surge protector though. My timers are just cheap ones off eBay.
