question though, what exactly is purging and is it necessary?

What's up realcarlos purging is when you put the oil in a vacuum desiccator chamber and suck all the air out of the chamber which in turn purges the oil of all air and left over butane. Which also in turn make the oil very stable and brings the taste right out I use the food saver vacuum jars with a brake bleeding hand pump. I think purging is the most important part if you don't purge you will be smoking the left over butane and the oil is just to hard to handle when it hasn't been stabilized from purging. Next run I do I will do a tutorial on how to safely and properly make high quality BHO!!!!!

I've watched U-tubes & "user submitteds" til my fuckin' eyes are boggled, only to end up with some poor quality vid, skipped purge, no purge...etc. So many different methods, but IMO the heat, melt, vacuum repeat method works best from a health aspect first on to flavor, stability. And your set up is the first I've seen of the kind and I'm impressed & intrigued. And your end product is astounding :dance:, and that is just from a visual. From all the vids /pics Molly & I have watched, Spelsylver & now yours have given the best views and best lookin' results (cause that's how folks here at AFN roll!!!). Looking forward to your next push / purge. Cough, cough, pass (out!)
