My grandfather used to make the best yorkshire pudding ever! Ive been try'n for years now to get it like his but can't. He used to make it in a deep cast iron skillet amd slice it like a pie/cake! Mmmmmmmmmmm! Miss him and it soo much.

Manglewurzel? Sounds like a German heavy metal band hahaaa! Yo I got the new Manglewurzel album, those jams are so brutal!

Swede is a root vegetable similar to turnip, radish and manglewurzel (lol), boil for 45 mins, mash the hell out of it, add butter and black pepper! Lovely!!

It's also Orange in colour, makes for a colourful plate.

Just a comparison between spuds and swede!

Good to know. Thanks MikeyB! In my parts, those are called purple turnip.. We use it peeled & cubed in New England Boiled Dinner. Ham usually, or a corned beef, with taters, carrots, cabbage, and turnip.
By the time a French Canadian Mainer is 12, they've gotten sick of that traditional staple, methinks... lolol

Almost snap except mine will have roast Vivaldi potatoes and a side I Stilton and cranberry bread,I will take a pic when it's cooked.

I'm just a poor retired butcher and used to eat meat at every meal but meat prices are crazy high ware I live so unless it's on sale I don't buy much any more.Ground beef used to be cheap but even that is expensive.I hope you guys enjoy your steaks while I splurge on a can of sardines and crackers.

Tell me about it Namvet. Meat is expensive pretty much everywhere these days, but I am the queen of bulk buying, and own 4 massive freezers. I chose a reliable and skilled butcher, and share a whole cow with my sister in law, once every 3 months. Most of the price of meat is added on by the retailers, butchers/middlemen, and these days everyone is a greedy b*#%$+d. As much as possible I try to buy my fresh food from source, I find it's cheaper and healthier.......happy Sunday.

I used to get all my meat at reduced prices when I was a butcher but those days are gone.I'll still stock up when I find a sale so I still eat meat but not as much as before.
