Hi,

I recently had a discussion on a different forum where someone asked which LED lights are good and I said that I advice the Mars Hydro website since I bought them recently.

There was this guy who claimed to be the LED expert who basically called me ignorant for buying those lights and told me that I made a huge mistake for buying them and that I have no idea about LED basically... I do not believe this guy since I have the lights and I'm doing pretty well (except Cal/Mag issues and some dots on leafs)

I'm quoting what he wrote and would like to know if there is truth in the par data and the thing he wrote about 700 umol? Did anyone do a Par test for the Mars II?

"No they are not, Mars II suck the big one. My buddy has two that his roommate bought and they do not produce like a high quality fixture can.

If you google/youtube the Par data for it you will see that it no longer flowers cannabis (@700 umol minimum) after 12 inches. your at best going to get a 2'x2' area with penetration no more than 12" away from the fixture, and dim sides. And their inclusion of 120 degree lenses and 2.25w "5w" diodes make the thing a piece of marketing junk. Whats that--your "400" model uses how many watts--180?

So four in a 4x4 tent would cost ~800 and barely have enough light to maybe do a SOG. $800 for 1-3 year warranty (depending on vendor). They are the cheapest Chinese fixtures you can buy these days, I feel sorry for anyone who buys one and thinks that its great. Ignorance is bliss, but sometimes you just want to smack it out of someone."

Hey Cyklos, You should talk to someone like pop22 who understands PAR values. The Mars II is the only light I've ever grown with but I've had good results for someone who's been growing for about a year. I'd say the proof is in the pudding. If it works for you who cares about the "Experts". :goodluck:

Way more than happy with mine . dd2 016.jpg

I'd have posted, " PROVE your remarks"! Every imatation expert has a "buddy" who 1. grew the biggest damn plant of the planet, 2. Grew the worst, piece of shit plant ever. 3 read 1/2 a page of LED science and became an expert.............and will answer all questions with: " all you noobs are are stupid because I know it all......

I've grown 11 plants, in a 4'x4' space with a pair of Mars Hydro 300 watt "Old Style" lights, and grew some mighty fine plants. Would a high end light work better? maybe....... but that doesn't make these a bad buy, it makes a market for people who want a good growlight that doesn't cost hundreds of dollars. On fact, ( I wish I had bookmarked it ) I read a scientific study of several currently available LED growlights, and guess what? Some of the so called " good light, were not only not much better, some were much worse! California Loght works Solar Flare ranked second to last to Grow Star, a Chinese made piece if junk....lol!

Okay I will PM Pop22 maybe he can give me some info about this... I'm not doubting this forum or anyone who adviced me to get those lights. I'm just interested about the PAR and Umol claim he made.

OMG she is gorgeous!!!..... is this with Mars II only? How many watts and yield did you get? I am interested to know...
Also what strain is this? Looks sexy as hell

Cyklos,

That was one of the most ignorant and rude replies I have ever read. What a complete wanker. Ditch that forum and the idiots that inhabit it.
AFN would never tolerate such sad people.
Stay over here where we respect people and their opinions and don't resort to such bad language as that self opinionated child.

If your light works for you. Good. End of.

eP.

Thanks for the response... 11 Plants under 300W :jaw: is that even possible lol

I have 1x Mars II 400W & 1 oldschool 300W light for 2 plants i feel stupid now! :D I almost thought so that those "good lights" aren't that much different. I'm pretty sure even those are made in China correct? I mean 90% of stuff we buy today is from China. I just wanted some feedback and to know if they guy was talking BS about the PAR and 700 umol claim.
I think your response concludes that this guy clearly has no idea what he is talking about... Thanks for the response Pop22 I appreciate it! :)

Ckylos, I'll answer you right here. Not all LED light makers list PAR or umol values. Thes estandards of measurement are just now becoming used more by knowledgeable LED users. Even armed with this data, lighting varies with every growroom/tent, etc. Unless I'm spending the money on a mid to high end light, I'm not going to worry too much about that spec. I would search forums and youtube, for growers who use the brands your considering. I personally now own 4 lights, of three different designs, from Mars Hydro. All ahve performed to my satisfaction.

So do thes numbers matter? well that depends on what your buying. Even I learned the hard way, to avoid no name, it even new Chinese grow light companies. LED grow lights are such a hot commodity now that every scammer in the world wants a piece of the action. When you start spending $600 or more for a high end light, then you need to get reading to under stand the terminology or grow lighting science. There are several good resources on this subject online
