Mephisto Show Grows 2023 Mephisto Test Strains: Walter White BX1 & Old School Mango Haze

Mephisto Show Grows 2023
Day 22: 6/5 - Start of week 4

So last time I had only watered once since the beginning. Plants are now just about needing 1L every 3 days. Lots of growth on both plants. The WW still lagging a bit while the OSMH is doing great.

Old School Mango Haze:
5/28 First watering- 2L in - 634ml out @ 551ppm

Still on the same batch of 60% strength. Everything is looking pretty good so I will probably continue the 60.
5/31 - 1L in - 400ml out @ 591ppm
6/3 - 1L in - 328ml out @ 580ppm
6/5 - 1L in - 510ml out @ 494ppm

Walter White BX1:

5/28 First watering - 2L in - 667ml out @537ppm

This plant also currently on the 60% nute strength

5/31 - 1L in - 395ml out @ 630 ppm
6/3 - 1L in - 285ml out @ 664 ppm
6/5 - 1L in - 470ml out @ 546 ppm

Sex - OSMH
Day 29 - Start of week 5:

The start of another week. The Old School Mango Haze is showing sex. I believe. Watering, I went 4 days which was too much and got 0 runoff so it looks like time to move to once a day every day.

Current fertigations since last update:

6/7 - 1L in 391ml out @ 571ppm
6/11 - 1L in 0 runoff (yikes!) This is what I look for to determine volume and frequency changes.

New batch of nutrients mixed - 593ppm @6.2ph ( I did add some pH down )
6/12 1L in 226ml out @ 711ppm

Slightly elevated runoffppm count but that is fine, input is ~600ppm so as long as it doesn't exceed 900ppm.

Pics: Topped and some LST applied. A bit later than ideal but growing well.

Applied some pipe cleaners.

Walter White BX1: Still looking a bit unhappy but growing visibly from week to week. I swapped the location of the plants in the tent just in case there is something bothering the WW.

Fertigation since last update:

6/7 1L in 392ml runoff at 571ppm
6/11 1L in with 0 runoff. Increasing fertigation to 1L everyday

New batch of nutrients mixed: 593ppm @6.2pH ( added some pH down to bring it to 5.8, let the up creep work over the next few days)

6/12 1L in with 574ml runoff @ 540ppm
Lots of runoff, coco was still wet despite 0 runoff yesterday, ppm is below input so the plant is using the nutrients despite looking a bit tatty.

WWBX1 - D29.JPG

Kinda mopey looking. I will let this plant finish but I think I am going to start another seed of this soon and journal that one with the same parameters and see if it looks differently. No signs of sex yet.

Early Flower - WWBX1
Day 36 - Start of week 6: Interesting changes in the last week. The WWBX1 went from not showing sex to being in full on early flower. There is a clear difference in both plants in terms of what they like for feed.

The WWBX1 is showing signs of being very nute and N sensitive. Both plants are getting 60% strength Jacks blend. The WWBX1 has clear N tox/overload appearance. Dark green and clawing down.

The Old School Mango Haze continues to grow nicely. It is looking a bit "limey" so I am considering to up the feed to 80% strength. However, I do see maybe 1 or 2 leaf tips bending down and might be slightly dark. I should just leave it alone.

Current plan: Drop WWBX1 feed to 50% strength, continue OSMH at 60%, both will get 3 parts feed and 1 part bloom PK booster.

OSMH: Consistent 1L everyday with about 200-300ml runoff. Input is ~590ppm and runoff is 450-500ppm.

osmh - D36B.JPG

WWBX1:
600ml everyday with about 130-150ml runoff at ~520ppm

Plant absolutely busted into full on flower mode in the last 2-3 days. Very quick transition. Nute sensitive and showing signs of N overload. Going to back off the feed a bit.

WWBX1 - D36B.JPG

Here is a good comparison shot of both plants. They are getting the same feed strength, pH, frequency, and environment. At 60% strength is it a hair low for the OSMH and a bit high for the WWBX1.

Great comparison photo . They both look excellent, with WWBx ‘s speed impressive. OSMH has size potential.

Day 43: Start of week 7

Both plants trucking along just fine.

Old School Mango Haze: Change of nute plans! I had thought to leave it alone at 60% strength but with the lighter lime coloring I pushed it to 80% strength and mixed in a bit of the transition bloom booster.

The new mix came out at ~910ppm

D37: 1L in - 0ml out
D38: 2L in - 768ml out @670ppm (pushed volume due to 0 runoff yesterday)
D39: 1L - 0ml out (1L is no longer enough)
D40: 1600ml in - 325ml out @ 753ppm (just about perfect 20% runoff)
D41: 1600ml in - 226ml out @ 815ppm (below 20% - push volume)
D42: 2L in - 503ml out @830ppm (just a bit over 20% runoff)

Greened up nicely with a bit more strength!

Walter White BX1: Still in about the same state as last week. I've dropped another seed and will give it a new thread once it gets going. Compared to the others I see being grown, this one is unhappy about something. I do think nute strength needed to be less from the start. I've dropped it to 50% strength with a bit of the bloom booster added.

Prior mix was ~600ppm and the new batch is ~500ppm.

D37: 1L in - 471ml runoff @500ppm
D38: 600ml - 167ml runoff @440ppm
D39: 600ml - 121ml runoff @510ppm
D40: 1L - 338ml runoff @ 440ppm
D41: 750ml - 156ml runoff @490ppm
D42: 750ml - 136ml runoff @498

Runoff staying right in line with the input strength. Interesting. Flowering faster but still looking unhappy. No deficiencies or problems other than still looking N heavy. Will keep the same nute strength for the next week and see if it doesn't look better.

How's your VPD? Temperature/Humidity? These have a incremental influence on your plant's health.
The clawing sure is a sign of to hot and dry. The plants close up the pores and stop evaporating, which in turn halts the uptake of water...Raising the humidity and/or lowering the temperature, even with a couple of degrees/percentages can have an amazing result.

Yes indeed. That's the funny thing is both plants are in the same environment and the Mango Haze looks great while the Walter White is not. VPD currently at a glance is about 1.1 which should be good for early/mid flower.

Temp is running 73-77F and RH is holding in the high 50's from 55-58%. Both controllers have about a 3-4 degree swing on them.

I think I just overfed the WW. I started a new one and it germed today. I'll tag you when I post the new thread. Hope this one goes a bit better. Going to run low strength 40% Jacks and see if it doesn't like that better. Shoot I thought 50/60% was aiming low!

That should be just fine indeed. Try to keep that VPD as low as you can for now, the lower the pressure, the more likely the plant will start to perspirate more and everything will start to move again...
