New Grower opinions please

Hello folks, I am very new to growing. I lack some very basic knowledge as it relates to AF strains. I am in a situation where I might be taking on the responsibility of growing for 3 people that are in need. I do not know if I have the ability to do this, as I have just started my first grow; this might be premature. Here is where I am coming from in terms of grow area/concept.

I plan to have 3 separate areas within my closet, a seed-seedling CFL area(perhaps 10day duration), a CFL(4x150watt) shelf that should hold 6 AF plants in 2gallon pots (veg for 3-4weeks), and a final 400 watt HPS area that I am hoping to finish flowering in for the remaining 4-5weeks of flowering. The hope is that I might be able to harvest every 4-5weeks.

Questions: Would the above set up be possible? If the basic concept is sound, is it possible to yield 1.5ounces per plant? Out of the following strains (ordering from http://original-ssc.com/100-x-autoflowering-feminized-cannabis-seeds.html), what might be a good candidate for a grow like this? Thanks for any help~

Ok, thanks - that is great to know. I doubt I have the ability now, maybe after several grows. In the meantime, I will build my last shelf area as I finish my first grow.

Sounds like you lack confidence. Relax. Believe in yourself. It's really not that hard. Just remember you are growing a WEED. Keep it basic and simple your first attempts...and expand your knowledge as you go. YOU CAN DO IT! :thumbs:

Right-on!:dance2: I am a bit obsessive, so that is some good advice...I will say that I am enjoying myself immensely watching my plants grow.

You could probably modify your setup a bit. Really no need for 3 areas. One area for veg and one for bloom would do it, depending on how you are going to start your seedlings. You could start them in smaller containers, then tier or transplant them into their final pots. I start mine in 1/2 gallon juice containers, which are big enough for about the first 3-3 1/2 weeks, or until they sex. Then I transplant them into their final, 3 gallon pots. If you plan on starting them in their final pots, then you could go full cycle under the HPS and not need a separate veg area. I'd also be concerned about the amount of heat you're going to have in your closet. While CFLs aren't near as hot as HPS, they still give off a good bit of heat. Combined with the HPS it could be pretty warm in there. So you'll need good ventilation for heat extraction and probably a cool tube type hood for the HPS. You might want to consider using LEDs instead. A lot less heat to deal with and while the up front cost is more, you will save in the long run on reduced electrical costs and replacement bulbs for the HPS.

Thanks Muddy. I see what you are saying...I am going to look into the LEDs. So far I have run my room with 4 100watt CFLs + 400HPS running at the same time. I do have an external ballast (out of the grow room...I would guess that helps a bit). So far, my vent system keeps the room 3-4 degrees warmer than my bedroom (73ish degrees). My bedroom is one room in the house that we keep very cool...through winter and summer. I know I have seen some good threads on here with reviews on Modular LED systems that would work well for the Veg shelf....I will dig around a bit.

You're good on temps then, maybe even a little low. 79-80 is optimum for HPS lights.
