Grow Room OS 24 Carat

I have a hydro system in it's original box. I haven't used it. I'm thinking of giving hydro a try after checking out jackmc's thread. My question is what is the cost of hydro over soil grow? $$$$ is tight at the moment and that and no hydro experience has put a hold on trying it.

Thanks BayLee. My costs are around $15-$20 for nutes per run. Although I had to spend more up front to get started. You can buy either Technaflora's Recipe for Success Starter Kit or General Hydroponics Go Box for around $40. I bought the Technaflora products because it's what the mfg. of my first res sold. If I was starting over I'd go organic with the GH Go Box. That being said you'd also need a pH meter for liquid and a ppm/EC meter and I am an advocate of calibrating solutions which adds cost if you don't have them. Hydro is on my To Do List. It will be later on as a go. I'll let you know all the detail b4 I attempt it. Your grow is what made me think that it's possible. Thanks and Keep Growing.

Has anyone tried recirculating by putting a submersible pump into their res to just move the water around within the res? I may try it in my controller in place of the airstone I have in there now. My water quality has been OK but the water does have a bit of a pond smell. Thoughts?

Not a bad idea. But why not recirculate the controller with your res then (rdwc). The pond smell will be gone for good :thumbs:.. And if (WHEN) your gonna auto dose the ph up/down you also need something to stir the res after dosing..
A submersible pump whould fix it all.

First I have to report that I've somehow killed my 24 Carat grow. :Woopsadaisy: I've started 12 more seeds. 1 Advanced Seeds Auto Mass, 2 OSS Soviet Auto, 3 NL x Big Bud Auto, 3 Dinafem Auto Fruit and 3 Mephisto Auto Blues. This killing my plants is getting expensive.

Ksj psyched to see you! How are you doing? I've been considering recirculating my system but I need to engineer a bypass for the float valve in my controller. I'm thinking I'll pump water from my primary res to the secondary res and run an overflow from the secondary res to the controller. I am using a Kerick float valve and it only allows a trickle of water run from from the secondary res into the controller. If you have a brilliant solution, which you often do, please let me know.

Dang bro! Thats not good new, but I see your already on top of it with more to go. Multi-strains to boot man. This is definitely going to be a wild ride. Definitely want to see your results on the auto fruit. Been eyeballin it for a while now. Fruity smells in any strain is the biggest plus to any strain...fruity or candy type smells. You got one intense line up though.

What do you think, if you dont mind me asking. What do you think is the reason they died? I don’t really know a while lot about hydro, but I know a little bit..The basics I guess. Was it just separating the cubes to stressful on the girls?

Hey Neko, I cleaned my system with bleach and I must not have rinsed it out well enough. Real bummer. Those 24 Carat were rocking it before I put them in the new res. I have banned bleach from my grow room. It's for the best bleach is not environmentally friendly. I've just gotta move on. How are your plants buddy?
