Hey everyone, I planted seeds about 9 days ago. I am using pro mix bx with 3 cups of perlite added in 3 gallon pots. They are under a 4x4 t5 with 10000k bulbs. My temp is 70-77 degrees and the humidity it between 30-40rh. They seem to be draining extremely slowly. I watered them for the first time today since planting and after running a gallon of water through one of them I had no run off. I then waited about 30 minutes and still nothing has drained. Not sure where I should go from here... Any advise would be greatly appreciated

:smokebuds:If you waited for nine days to water they are super dry. Just keep adding water, eventually it will come out the bottom when the mix has used as much as it needs. I would check them more often for water nine days is way to long.Once they get a good root system never let them fully dry out or some of the roots will die.

The soil still seemed wet when I watered them but I didn't wanna wait any longer. I know I should be be watering every few days but the soil seems to hold in the moisture. I have a dry pot that I have been using to check the weight of my pots and they all are heavier than the test pot. I did this because I have over watered in the past and I was trying to avoid doing this again. Should I be watering more often even if my pots don't seem lighter?

It's not usual for a 3 gallon pot with a seedling in it to take a week or more to dry out. As the plants get bigger you will need to water more often, probably every 3-4 days. I use Pro Mix in 3 gallon pots and 1 gallon is my usual amount to feed. When they are completely dry it takes a bit more, so I wouldn't be concerned.

Alright thanks muddy and namvet for the help A:thumbs: what should my water ph be for pro-mix?

yes, being a sedling.there are no roots to fill up the medium,so it could tak a long time to dry out,no worries Muddy is completely right

I agree, but somtimes it takes forever for the bottom 1/3 or1/4 of the pot completly drys out so ther might still feel like there is some weight in the pot but the top 2/3 or 3/4 of the pot might be powder dry.It takes a little practice but you will learn eventually

bx doesnt drain like hp and i learnt that the hard way , i was all buzzed one day when going to buy materials , i grabbed a couple bales of bx instead of hp not realizing it

long story short,,,,, i drowned the entire crop and with the final yeild i ended up with you may as well say i had killed all 60 plants early in life

the damage was done from only 2 waterings too

not dissing BX , its wonderful stuff , but when your used to years of HP and unknowingly switch , the difference is extream as BX is ment to retain moisture longer then HP

peace

I add plenty of perlite to my BX and have great drainage no issues. How is your airflow inside the tent?

You could try getting your circulation fan blowing more towards them and get more air moving around the pots/plants and they should dry a little quicker. Good luck man. :D

Yes, BX does hold more moisture than HP. I found BX best when using HPS lights, but prefer HP under my LEDs. I think HP would also be preferable under T5s and CFLs. I start my seedlings in BX and transplant into HP after sexing.
