I don't Ph. My tap is 7.0
After I add nutes to my gallon jugs, the PH drops to 4.5. When I add it to my res the plant will always try and find a homeostatic condition. Within a day my res will be around 5.6-6 naturally due to the buffers in the nutes.
When they start to flower it's a gallon a day or more so the Ph of the water / nute solution changes because of the extra PK so I might have to add a gallon of water or two if I catch the Ph and Ec start rising and she isn't drinking as much or stops all together. I then know I have reached the max ppm's / EC. Unfortunately I end up with burnt leaves as well. Ultimately you want to get to a point when she is drinking and eating and the ph is stable naturally and you won't have to use up and down which can hinder your buffers and can potentially lock out some essential nutes.
Sorry so wordy. Hope this answers some of your questions
