I finally got a vaporizer for smoking pot, but I have a few questions.
Does vaping increase or decrease the potency of what you smoke compared to smoking in a regular pipe or joint? Is it more diluted so you need more hits to get the same intake of thc?
What is the point of setting different temps on the vaporizer? What's the best temp to vape pot? How will using different temps affect the results?

I got one of the Volcano vapes that have a bag.
Does the potency diminish if you leave the vape smoke in the bag for a while before inhaling it?

I'm just hoping that a vape will help my lungs stay less congested and maintain the potency of whatever I'm smoking.

I would say give it a whirl and let us know!

In my opinion the potency is better with a vape straight out or with the bag as you are not burning your weed you are vaporizing the moisture which carries the chemicals to your lungs . Different temps are provided to compensate for the moisture content of your weed . You'll have to do a little experimenting with your unit until you find the right temp. Usually the lower the temp the less concentrated the vapor . The higher the temp the thicker the vape and the harsher it may be . Fool around with , read the manual and toke till you get it right . :goodluck:

Different temperatures are because Decarboxylation rate of your cannabinoids occure at different tempuratures.

Simply put, if you want a more THC high, set your vape at 335 degrees. if you want a more CBD, sleep, pain releif stone, set your vape at 380. I wouldn't go above 400, cuz then you are basically smoking it, serious heavy vape and combustibles can get into your lungs.

I am not exact, but I am sure I am very close. You can do a search for decarb temps (that's what I would have to do to get the exact temps)

Hope it helps.

Thanks.
Does the higher temp increase the potency or just introduce more of the tars or other stuff in the pot that doesn't affect the potency?
I'm not really sure what the optimal point is. To vaporize the thc without burning the material that only adds tar or smoke, or is there additional thc in the tar or smoke that is not used when vaped at lower temps?

Potency is determined by the plant material your vaping not the heat .Now you need a chemist .When you vaporize ,you vaporize all the chemicals that the plant posses so if you vape at lower temps then revape the same material again at the next higher temp and keep doing it until you get no vapor at all . Then refill the bowl and do it again until you get it right .:dance2:

Eekman got it spot on when it comes to temps, it is all personal preference and the kind of high that you want. You can vape anywhere between 180-210C/355-410F, best temps to release a good range of active compounds is at about 185C/365. Any temp from 180C/355F-190C/375F with give you a good cerebral high and anything over that will increase the body stone effect. Also as Eekman said be careful going to high as it can cause combustion and create smoke, so even though you can vape at 210C/410F its not recommended to go above 200C/392F.

As for the vape in the bag, i use the plenty and it has a whip system so not got any experience using the bags, but done alot of research online before buying my vape, and most people seem to say that the vape starts to go stale and lose potency and flavor after about 10 mins in the bag.

Here is some info i copied about the different vape temps of cannabinoids, flavonoids, terpenoids and toxins and the uses they have.

Cannabinoids
THC - 157 °C/315 °F.The most famous cannabinoid. It has both euphoric and analgesic effects, inducing a great sense of relaxation.
CBD - 160 - 180 °C/320 - 355 °F.
The cannabinoid most sought after by medical users for its vast array of medicinal applications. It partly counters the effects of THC, effectively countering feelings of anxiety and paranoia.
Delta-8-THC - 175 – 178 °C/347 - 352 °F.
This cannabinoid is very similar to THC, but it is more stable and less psychoactive. It has great anti-vomiting properties.
CBN - 185 °C/365 °F.
CBN is often found in quite small amounts, however, its effects can still be felt. It breaks down THC and is highly associated with a sedative effect.
CBC - 220 °C /428 °F.
This cannabinoid has anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties.
THCV - 220 °C/428 °F.
THCV has been shown to moderate the psychoactive effects of THC, but more research is required.

Flavonoids
Beta-sitosterol - 134 °C/ 273 °F.

This flavonoid is thought to have anti-inflammatory qualities.
Apigenin - 178 °C/352 °F.
Apigenin is thought to be estrogenic, anxiolytic and have anti-inflammatory properties.
Cannflavin A - 182 °C/360 °F.
This flavonoid is a COX inhibitor.
Quercetin - 250 °C/480 °F.
Quercetin is an antioxidant and anti-viral flavonoid. It boils at , well out of the cannabis vaporization temperatures.

Terpenoids
Beta-caryophyllene - 199 °C/390 °F.

Thought to be anti-inflammatory and anti-malarial.
Alpha-terpinol - 156 °C/312 °F.
This terpenoid is an antioxidant, sedative, antibiotic and anti-malarial.
Beta-myrcene - 166- 168 °C/330 °F - 334 °F.
This is analgesic, an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory.
Delta-3-carene - 168 °C/334 °F.
This terpenoid has anti-inflammatory properties.
1,8-cineole - 176 °C/349 °F.
1,8-cineole increase cerebral blood flow, acts as a stimulant, and is anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and an antibiotic.
D-limonene - 177 °C/350 °F.
Perhaps surpringsingly, D-limonene appears naturally in cannabis. It has anti-mutagenic, antidepressant and immune system potentiating properties.
P-cymene - 177 °C/ 350°F.
P-cymene is an antibiotic and an anticandidal agent.
Linalool - 198 °C/388 °F.
This is an antidepressant, sedative and immune system potentiator.
Terpinol-4-ol - 209 °C/408 °F.
This is an antibiotic and an AChE inhibitor.
Borneol - 210 °C/410 °F.
Borneol is an antibiotic.
Alpha-terpineol - 217 °C/423 °F.
This terpenoid is a sedative, antibiotic, antioxidant and AChE inhibitor.
Pulegone - 224 °C/435 °F.
Pulegone is a sedative and potentially has memory boosting properties.

Toxins
Carbon monoxide and tar

Released by combustion in the form of smoke. They are carcinogenic and can cause lung related problems.
Toleuene
This is not thought to be a very serious toxin, and only appears in small amounts. It can cause light-headedness, nausea, sleepiness and a loss of appetite. Its boiling point is 110 °C/230 °F., so there is no avoiding it.

Benzene
Benzene is a carcinogen and has a boiling point of 200 °C/392 °F.

Maphthalene
This toxin is possibly a carcinogen and causes light-headedness, nausea, loss of appetite and pale skin. Its boiling point is 218 °C/424 °F

Thanks.
Does the higher temp increase the potency or just introduce more of the tars or other stuff in the pot that doesn't affect the potency?

Different cannabinoids vaporize at different temperatures. The adjustable temps let you vaporze just terpenes say. In fact, I love a first hit that has real taste of terpenes, its hard to even describe until you've done it. If all you want is max stone crank it up to 400 and get it all at once. No, the don't burn anything. I find vaping to be very potent and much nicer than a pipe. And your not getting anything you don't want, like when you smoke. Also, smoking destroys more THC than you get from smoking. I still enoy a joint now and then, but 90% of what consume other than my oil capsules, is vaped.

Hey Pop ... got a link to the oil capsules you mentioned ?
