Update: Day 20

I'm growing shrubs. They're so f'ing bushy!!!

I compared them to a photo from day 17, and they've gained a little height. Unfortunately, they're filling out and not up.

I hope I didn't make a big mistake, but I had an idea and just went with it. Decided to throw in a little tiny bit of FF Grow Big. I know it's early since I'm using FFOF, but I only used 1/8 of the recommended dose. I watered both with just a little over a gallon of pH upped water with 1/4 tsp of Grow Big. I also decided to try using some bamboo skewers to get some light to the lower reaches of the plants.

As I'm writing this, I'm thinking that the LST might make them even bushier. :slaps: I guess that's a pretty easy fix if I screwed up on that. On the other hand, the nutes….

Looking forward to any comments and criticisms. Please be kind :thank:

Cheers,
Jenny

P.S. For what it's worth, I've raised the lights, too.

I think we have a problem:

DSCN0417.jpgDSCN0421.jpgDSCN0422.jpg

Since my last post, I've watered twice: first time with just pH'd water, second with pH'd water and another 1/8 recommended dose of FF Grow Big. Second feeding was yesterday. Today, I started seeing spots. Wondering if it's deficiency or burn or what? Cal/mag? Boron? Most importantly, what should I do to fix this? Don't want to lose my babies!!!!

I did post this in the sick plant forum, but I wanted to keep track of it over here, too. Hope that's ok. If there's anybody out there who can help us, please give a shout. We need you! Bad!!!

Hi all,

Been a bit since I posted last. Trying to overcome what the guys over on the sick plant forum diagnosed as a cal-mag deficiency. I guess it's very common when you have soil pH problems. What a pain in the ass!!! Will definitely get my medium straight before grow #2.

Here's what's gone down:
My new grow guru, Waira, recommended foliar feeding with cal-mag. I've done that twice along with adding CALiMAGic to my regular soil feedings. The bad parts of the plants don't look any better, but I think we've arrested the spread of the problem (fingers crossed).

I've also upgraded my set-up. The smell was becoming an issue, and my DIY carbon filter was a joke. I got a 4" inline fan and a proper carbon filter, and all is well. I also got a Secret Jardin DR 60 tent. It was getting too difficult to adjust height of the lights in the Sterilite cab. Call me crazy, but I was also worried about the off-gassing of the constantly warm plastic. I'm planning to repurpose the old cab for a little drying space when the time comes, so it won't go to waste totally. Just wish I'd gotten the tent in the beginning.

I've gone to mainly 2700K 125w cfl with a supplemental 6500k 125w cfl on 18/6 schedule. I'm also doing bloom nutes (Tiger Bloom and Big Bloom) every other watering. I'm using CALiMAGic with every watering. Right now, I'm watering every 4 days.

Here are some photos of the girls in their new digs:

Note the really poor looking leaves on the bottom. I'm hoping that's either normal or a result of them getting trapped inside the pots because I didn't have enough soil.

Here are some flower pics:

I hope this is where we should be going into week 6.

Any comments or questions are super welcome. Hope all's well with the rest of the autoflower world.

Cheers y'all :tiphat:
Jenny

Looks like you got a nice CFL grow going on man. :Sharing One:

looks like they might need some cal/mag..or N? Cant tell. Might be deficient in something. it is over 6 weeks though. Im stil a noob though. Dont jump to conclusions off my post. =). Wait till someone else corrects, and or agree's with me.:Sharing One:

Cal-mag has definitely been a prob. Foliar feeding once a week and also adding to each watering. It's the :cuss:Fox Farm Ocean Forest!!!! I've had soil pH issues from the get go. Apparently, if the soil's too acidic, cal-mag gets locked out. I'm hoping the foliar feeding will help.

It's all been a real adventure and a great learning experience. Just hoping to harvest something from this grow. Already excited about grow #2, and I'm not even at the halfway point on #1

Cheers, bro "AFN smoke out"
